Does anyone have a sandblaster??

Just what the title says. I need one to hit my clutch plates before I put them in. Hook a brotha up, I really want to get that back together tonight. Just post up and let me know.

Also - Finally got my twelve bar last night......so who wants to see me wreck trying my first ape hanger??

Why do you have to sandblast clutch plates?

The steel plates get glazed over from the heat and friction. They need to be sandblasted so they get the friction back. If you don't do this the friction plates will just slide on the steel and your clutch will slip.

Pack a dry-vac with dirt and hit reverse!

Failing that, you could try the rental place in swartz creek.

Yea, used. Looking at them they look like they are salvagable, not warped or anything. They are just a nice pretty black and blue.......kinda like Dan's a$$ after flip gets done with him.

So, anyone know anybody with one?? Maybe even a body shop that could do it for a couple of bucks.

Worried I'll take too much off if I use sand paper. Lightly sandblasting it won't take as much off or at least that's what I was told. I guess those are made to very tight specs and if you take too much off your screwed.

Re: Does anyone have a sandblaster??

a sandblaster is like sand paper, just very fine. use like 2000 grit just to roughen it up a little bit, you'll barely be taking anything off.

thats the same thing with brake rotors, you really cant take too m,uch if you just do what you need to do. I usually get a sanding disc and put it on an air tool to roughen up a rotor surface before putting it on a car... you barely take off enough to mean anything... so just get some high grit sand paper and rough it out. no problemo, be riding tonight

You’re definitely an engineer. Trying to use junk parts over is something only engineers do. The blue and black on the plates is telling you that they have been over heated... Warping and cracking may not be apparent but I would be willing to bet it won't be long till they start chattering. I know you can buy good clutch kits that come with new plates. But since you insist on reusing those ones you could always try a 90-degree die grinder and a scotch brite disc to clean them up.

Pack a wet/dry vac hose with cherrios and hit reverse at someone sleeping. It is fun for the whole family. Plus if one person turns on the switch, one person holds the hose and another plugs it in, it is no one's fault.
