My Fall/ winter Project Thread

Background
So after having a blast on powertour this summer I began planning a "more appropriate" car for next year. I Have old cars, but none that would be good for a week of highway and late night sheninagans.

The mustang would be ok but its not very fast with a 289 2bbl and the top is not what i would cal "weathertight"

The 77 firebird (see earlier thread) would be a good if it didnt have 3.73's, it screams at highway speeds, but without them the around town sheninagans would be limited.

The 67 camaro has a fresh 327 4bbl but it has a powerglide. Looking at the net I found that 200-4R's are a pretty popular swap. But for a performance trans, crossmember and misc parts it was looking to be $2300 for the swap. I was thinking this would be the best option to gain some "smoke-em" ability and long legs for the highway. But as fate would have it I stumbled across a 50K LS1 4L60E on craigslist that I could drive before I bought. So the project has taken a twist..

Sweet project.

Please tell me you're ditching the 4L60E in favor of a T56.

Re: My Fall/ winter Project Thread

You should paint the engine before you drop it in.

nope, I want to keep the car looking stock with the hood down, including the stock column shift.. Ive got a couple manual trans cars so I dont need to make this car do it all.

I'll clean the engine up but I dont like the look of paint vs the raw aluminum(or the durability), Its a toy, I'll make it look good

its numbers matching, I'm keeping all the stock parts to put it back if I want, nothing will need to be cut to do the swap.

12v? 24v? CR? What are you swapping it into? I'd love a new comon rail in my F250, but it's a $10-$15K swap.
