Re: Are we really that stupid?

if the american car companies didn't export all there jobs to other countries and not **** over the american working man, then i would feel sorry for them but they screwed us over first and now they are paying for it. the number one cash for clunker car turned in was the ford explorer, the aisians make a cheaper more reliable car.

Re: Are we really that stupid?

speaking in general(not just cars, but all goods) its every americans fault for wanting to spend as little as possible on everything they buy. since china has no real labor laws and a workforce with a billion(literaly) more laborers, the us really can not even compeat. If they re-envoked the old import tarifs(sp?) that would help a ton, but those are long gone.

Too bad all the domestic made cars get worse mileage than the imports. That and sub-par reliability are largely what got them in the shape their in to begin with.

In the 80's this was true. It is not the case with todays current cars. Do some research

Yep I could tell the cash for clunkers would be an epic fail. Everyone traded in domestics, and bought good cars (imports), and that didn't help the economy at all.
Maybe Obama should've tried getting rid of the unions, which is why american cars cost to value ratio is so terrible. If they sold a focus for 8 grand, I MIGHT consider driving one.
Even the whole concept of reducing emissions isn't going to happen tho. Because even with better fuel economy people are going to use more gas, because you drive more when you get a new car.

Re: Are we really that stupid?

Since you're so upset about it here's another way you can look at it. These Toyota's and Honda's that were bought were assembled in American factory's. So someone trades in their ford Taurus for a Camry they spend let's say $29,000 and got like $4,500 off or some ****. So they still need a $24,500 dollar loan, where do you think they go to get financed? That's right the good ol' American banks, banks accrue so much in interest on loans like these it stimulates the economy. So the Cash for clunkers has done 2 things put more money in the pockets of Americans and helped banks make more money that they can use it to invest and help make the stock market go up and in turn help us get out of this recession and make the cost of goods go down. The point of the cash for clunkers program was not to help out the American car companies although it did that too. If you feel so strongly about buying American goods maybe you should start stunting a Buel I hear they go real good.
