Bills gsxr...
Re: Bills gsxr...
Sorry to hear about your wreck, Bill. I hope your rehab is going well.
I was planning to buy a gixxer this winter. I'll do as you said in another post and research it some more, but I'm not sure I will feel comfortable with one after what you went through.
umm, is mangnafluxing a new stunt or a new kama sutra position? either way, i'm just trying to figure out if i've done it by accident.

Re: Bills gsxr...
Magnafluxing, developed originally by Carl E. Betz, is a method of testing ferrous metals for surface and subsurface flaws. The component being tested must be made of a ferromagnetic material such as iron, nickel or cobalt, or some of their alloys. This test is often used on industrial tools, and engine parts during maintenance inspections. It can also be used to diagnose failure, as in crash investigations.
It works by applying a magnetic field to the component under test, using e.g. a permanent magnet. This will cause a high concentration of magnetic flux at surface cracks, which can be made visible by dusting iron powder or a similar magnetic material over the component.

Thanx Teresa.I miss Oliver and still speak of him often. I used to quote him in front of company (and always in his presence) using the best possable Irish accent I can conjure up..(witch is just horrable) I still find myself doing it from time to time.
Re: Bills gsxr...
some dont break on the welds, but 1-2 inches from the hole for ram air.so there is more than one weak spot here. as long as it's cheaper to pay off people who live through it than it is for a recall there wont be one.I just wanna see how much worse it gets over time as these bikes (this model year) get more wear and tear on em. Mine was ridden hard-I'ts a racebike right? I did'nt buy it to cruze around like a Harley...........
Re: Bills gsxr...
Not sure what happened prior to this crash, but it was on the e-way and what was left of the bike burned. This is definitely happening at a faster rate now that these bikes are getting some mile on them.
Re: Bills gsxr...
I could take an educated guess as to what happened...I figure over time the number of failures will coninue to increace in number and in frequency. I'ts a twisted thing becouse everybody has this stupid loyalty to the brand name and they dont want to admit there is a problem-AND the longer the bike lasts the more that person trusts it. I seen an ad recently for a 2005 GSXR 1k for $9k and thought to myself I wish I could buy it so I could destroy it and keep the next guy from getting hurt or killed.
Re: Bills gsxr...
Thats not a good deal, but my friend just picked one up for $4k, and I am honestly scared for him, and to ride near him. His was also a track bike, so im double scared. I couldn't ride it, thats for sure.
