Re: Disturbed Rider went down Last night

Glad your ok given what could have happened. I was thinking of moving to a Gixxer for my next bike but after hearing this **** I am not changing my ticking yammy for a breaking zuki. I have taken my bike down in the winters to check things out. I wonder if the weld/frame was cracking and would be visual to the naked eye or not. None the less I hope you recover ASAP. I doubt after this your wife will ever let you get on a bike again mine most likely wouldn't. Plus I am not sure I would have enough trust in a bike to not have something like this happening again.

Glad to hear that you are out already. Wishing you a quick recovery, and will keep you in our prayers. Making me think twice about riding a GSXR.

I'm no GSXR encyclopedia (so I'm sure someone will correct me if this is wrong) but the 750's and 600's have different types of frames. Never-the-less, it still makes you wonder about engineering process issues..

Hey Bill, it's Lowe. I'm glad you're out of the hospital and I wish you the best and a speedy recovery. Everytime I get on 75 north and south bound, I think about GSXR frames. I wonder if my 07 GSXR-1000 frame is going to crack on me someday on the highway. This is the kind of stuff that I think about when I'm riding now. Once again I wish you the best of luck and I pray to God that you will be able to ride again soon.

It could be in the manufacturing process. I know we have many test part failures due to Sand casting of parts. This is mostly due to the air pockets left in the material during the casting process. Too many air pockets weaken the parts and cause early fatigue failures. Usually you can see small air holes in the break point which look huge under a microscope. Just looking at where it is breaking I would GUESS the part is either to thin to handle the high stress loads or not being casted correctly. It doesn't look like it is breaking at any weld points more a fatigue failure but not being welded incorrectly can weaken the metal around the weld area.

If I was Bill I would find a lawyer that knows a good Metallurgist. This can really help in figuring out the root cause of failure.

**** what was the name of my E-mat teacher. young guy, did a couple years at NASA. He would be perfect for this. Make sure you don't hold the pieces back together or let anything touch where it cracked.

That's the one! Se if he'll help you out. As an engineer I'm sure he will help bust Suzuki for making a faulty and dangerous product. I wonder if he still has the con-rod from my s-10 blazer? That thing was mangled.

Lowe,I have been on sportbikes many years. seemed like to me the last 8 years or so the big 4 Japenese manufactureres have REALLY gotten intense going extremes tryin to be top dog in the sportbike world. There have been alot of innovations to help performance like steering dampers and things like that, but being king seems to boil down to two things Imo.Horsepower/torque-and power/weight ratio.ultamatly speed is what everyone is lookin for.they make the bikes lighter so they'll be faster,I think suzuki crossed the line. I've seen things like this on the forums and worried too.I thought it was a prob w/ the 05 and fixed for 06...guess not. ruffly 100 lbs of torque is too much for that frame to handle over time.I had like 17K miles on that bike.that's alot of repetetive torqing on that thing,But I had an 03R1` w/155HP,drove it 30k miles on it and no problems.I personally would not ride another Gixxer.I couldnt feel safe on one,no matter what year model, but thats just me and based on my recent experience.IMO A biker should depend on his skills to ride safe and develope them over time.always check the bike before riding for anything obvious, but he should'nt have to have trust issues w/ the structural integrety of his bike.He should be able to feel safe on it and confident about how it will respond to his imputs.I will never have that on gixxer again, but like I said that's just me.I could go on for hours about this crap but the choice is yours dude.do some pokin around (research)and make an informed decision. gsxr are fast enough to win alot of championships...those bikes dont see much after that season,How many frames do they use? I dont know-could be just one,but who knows..Suzuki doesnt care about your life, they care about sales and right now they are selling ALOT more Gixxers than are killing people so they still got room to get "faster" just my two cents dude, take it for what it's worth.

Class action lawsuits tend to drain profits and kill sales faster then GSXR frames.

Re: Disturbed Rider went down Last night

Everything I know about recalls I learned from watching Fight Club

The equation:

(# of vehicles in the field, A) * (probable rate of failure, B) * (average out of court settlement, C)

A*B*C = X

If X is less than the cost of a recall, then there isn't one.

It's sad but it's big business.
