Window Tint Proposal...NOT GOOD!
Wanted to pass this on to everybody in Michigan. This is absolutely rediculous. Those that have your front doors tinted may want to really pay attention.
Basically, I guess that all people with their tinted front doors are cop killers!

Tint bill includes jail time
Web-posted Oct 16, 2005
Offense is now civil infraction with fines

Customized cars with dark tinted windows may become a thing of the past if state Sen. Deborah Cherry has her way.
A bill introduced by Cherry, D-Burton, would stiffen penalties for illegal window tints with a $500 fine and up to 90 days in jail.
Currently, the offense is a civil infraction with fines determined by the jurisdiction in which the violation occurs. In most cases, an offender can have the tint removed within 30 days to avoid fines, which are usually about $90 with no points added to the license.
Window tinting was in the news this past week when Detroit Piston Darko Milicic was stopped by Sterling Heights police because of dark windows on his 2004 Audi. He said he had been driving it for more than a year and didn't know it was illegal.
Lt. Gerry Scherlinck of the Troy Police Department said window tint can be up to only 35 percent in terms of darkness on a vehicle's windshield and passenger- and driver-side windows, and the tint can not exceed 4 inches.
"You can do whatever you please to the back windows," he said. "When you see some of these cars that are totally darked out, that's illegal. It poses a threat to police officers (and emergency workers) trying to see inside the car."
Denise Flannery, legislative aide for Cherry, whose district includes a portion of Oakland County, said the bill was introduced in response to a recent event in which a police officer was concerned for his safety.
"We feel the current fines are not enough to deter the illegal use of window tinting," she said.
The bill has been referred to the Senate Committee on Transportation.
The only exemption to the current legislation is a signed doctor's note specifying the tint is needed for vision problems.
Leticia Weatherby, a 22-year-old nurse's aide from Waterford Township, said she has been pulled over at least twice for her tinted windows, which she said allows officers to see inside her vehicle.
Weatherby owns a twodoor 1996 Monte Carlo and had all of the windows, except the windshield, tinted in February.
"I was under the impression that the tint shop only did the legal amount," she said. "I agree people shouldn't be allowed to tint windows so darkly that it causes a problem with the law. But I don't understand why they allow these shops to apply illegal tint but ticket you for it."
Weatherby said it costs about $179 to have the windows tinted and about $300 to have the tint removed.
"I'm not taking it off," she said. "I had the windows tinted to keep the sun out of my face and out of my child's face. If it's illegal for people to have the tint, it should be illegal for the shops to put it on."
There are no laws prohibiting the installation of illegal tint. Roger Griffi ths, outside sales coordinator with Ameristar Auto Outfi tters in Waterford, which specializes in window tinting, said his company does warn customers of the consequences of illegal window tinting but will still perform the work.
Flannery said including window-tinting businesses in the bill was "not the direction we're taking right now."
Sgt. Nathaniel McQueen with the Michigan State Police said one of the issues is tinted windows are also offered by manufacturers.
"In some areas, such as Arizona and Texas, it's legal because of the heat index," he said. "There needs to be a regulation stating it is illegal for a secondary vendor to put it on. Otherwise, you run into problems with manufacturers.
"This is really something the state needs to look into. I would think anyone proposing legislation to increase the penalty for illegal tinting should include the businesses that are putting this tint on the windows." John Sturk and Kevin Curtin of the Capital News Service contributed to this story.

Re: Window Tint Proposal...NOT GOOD!
When I lived in Mich. I was stoped many times. Until I got a notic from my eye doctor. Every time I got pulled over i just handed them the slip and they said ok . I had a truck with 5% on the sides and double 5% on the rear with a 6" strip across the front. I was pulled over by a state boy who told me I could only have it 4" down . This was before I had my slip that is when I went to my doc. and got one. Another reson I left Mich. If you are selling drugs, killing peeps thats ok. but if you have your windows tinted and dont have a seat belt on your going to jail and going to get a ticket. In florida you can have them black as sin and no problems. Its just another way for the state to make easy money. I can see the cops point in wanting to feel safe but to pull you over for this , without speeding or breaking any other law is B.S. so in the end I say not FTP but FDC (Funck Deb Cherry)
what the hell FTP
what the hell FTP

Don't you have another hurricane to prepair for or something.
Cop's don't care about window tint in Florida because your car will probably be blow upside down and full of water sooner or later anyhow.
Re: Window Tint Proposal...NOT GOOD!
I had the doctors note. It landed me on a State Police list that tracked whether I had tint every time I was pulled over. They ended up referring me to the SOS for a medical review and a retest, suggesting that I may not have acceptable vision to drive.
Re: Window Tint Proposal...NOT GOOD!
Secretary, take a note. Dear fat *****, get off your power trip and get laid. You obviously need some **** in you to straighten your head out. Please call my associate Flip who will give you the pounding you need.
P.S. watch your belly button.

I just emailed her this:Senator Cherry-
Some time ago when I moved to Grand Blanc, I called your office to be removed from your mailing list - although I seem to recall it being your father's office, perhaps? The female on the phone put up what I would almost call an argument to my request. After hearing about the Window Tint Bill you have introduced while reading a Flint-area motorcycle club website, I'm glad that I made that call years ago. It infuriated me enough to stay up and convey my opinion to you at 03:17am local time. I think it utterly disgusting that you have the nerve to try and restrict a citizen's right to privacy with something like this. Probable Cause aside, the contents of my car are nobody's business. Every single officer on the road has the option to order the occupants out of the vehicle before approaching it. The chief reasons they fail to do so are laziness, lack of training, and lack of professional discipline. I have carried a doctor's prescription for window tint because I actually warranted one due to light sensitivity after being legitimately examined. The result of which was being tracked by a file maintained by the Michigan State Police and then submitted to the SOS for a Driver's License retest and evaluation after having being stopped 3 times with tint and providing the prescription to the Trooper. The reason given by the MSP on the referral was that they questioned whether I possessed sufficient vision to be allowed to drive, regardless of the fact that I have passed every sight test I have ever been given, am not color-blind, have above-average peripheral sight range, and am even currently rated at 20/10. I passed everything they threw at me during the retest. Beyond that, I had not even owned the vehicle in question for some time, my current vehicle was not tinted, and I wasn't even using the prescription anymore - it had expired some time prior. The entire process was a waste of my time, not to mention the SOS Supervisor.
I volunteered my life to protect and preserve rights for the American people that you see fit to trample. People like you are an insult to the 140,000 soldiers serving here with me in Iraq, where I patrol the highways of Baghdad wearing the brassard of a Military Policeman. I moved out of New Jersey to get way from people like you. Should the opportunity present itself, I would even consider entering local politics upon my return for the sole purpose of protecting the citizens of Michigan from a menace such as yourself. If you think civilian police back in the States have it tough, think about having to perform a traffic stop on a van full of civilian men that are allowed to carry automatic weapons wherever they go. With this bill, you are helping to pave the road to complacency. Make them be the police instead of making concessions to them that persecute the public.

Dear Mark,
Thank you for contacting my office with your concerns on Senate Bill 786, a bill that increases penalties for illegal window tint.
There seem to be many misconceptions about the bill. One is that it has passed and has become law. This is not true; it is currently in the Senate Committee on Transportation. Another is that it creates a new offense. Excessive window tint is already against the law, the parameters of which are spelled out in the current law (MCL 257.709). This bill just seeks to make it a fixable offense. Also, those who have medical needs, and have a doctors notice, for window tint are still exempt under this proposal.
I understand the concerns stated with making this violation a misdemeanor. Some of the emails that I have received seem to think that it is an automatic $500 fine. This bill states that it is punishable of a fine not less that $100 or more that $500. Again, I understand the concern and am willing to remove that section, should this bill be considered for a hearing before the Committee. My intent is to make it a "fix-it" ticket.
Again, thank you for contacting my office. I hope this information is helpful.
Sincerely,
Deborah Cherry
