PLastic Welding

I borrowed a plastic welder from a friend (that he has never used) to fix my fairings. Anybody ever used on before. Looking for some tips before I start welding my GSXR fairings.

Re: PLastic Welding

hey rick.ive used one before and the plastic has to be very clean for the rods to adhere.it will mend it back together, but it wont have very much tinsel strenght.i recommend prepsol to clean the plastic of any impurities.if you are using an air unit, use very low psi i bleev 15 to 20 psi works best.practice on some scrap crap to get the hang of it first.

Re: PLastic Welding

On the back side of the plastics, lay some thin fiberglass strips across the cracks and coat with a flexible epoxy will help make it stronger and no one sees the back of the fairings anywho.

Re: PLastic Welding

I have some fiberglass cloth anyway. I was gonna practice on a plastic tub I have that has a crack on it. I wondered about PSI it didn't give an estimate.

Thanks, Hope it turns out good.

Never had any luck with plastic welding either. I work in a body shop and we use 3m automix 5887 for all plastic repairs. Probably $35-$40 at a paint supplier but its super easy to use and practically lasts forever.
