954 engine

So i tore into my 954 i took the head off last night the valves look fine they all looked seated correctly and the tops of the pistons were fine actually alot better looking then i thought they would be. The cylinder walls didnt have any score or marks on them either everthing looks good. Does anyone have experience tearing into the lower end of one of these engines?.

Cuz he didnt put any oil in it , then let Flip ride it, then he didnt put any oil in it and pulled a wheelie . It still runs better than a suzuki.

You have to split the case and your best to get a manual. The trans has to be torn apart with it just make sure you take your time and label all your parts so you can put it back together right. Have you drained the oil yet? Also cut the oil filter apart and look for metal inside it.

Re: 954 engine

look at either the number 1 or number 3 rod bearing. I think you will find something catastrophic, unfortunately.

When I heard the noise it sounded upper half. Rods usually make a nice loud sound that gets louder under a load. It wasn't making that type of sound when I heard it but I don't think I was hearing the noise he was talking about. And you might want to start looking on Ebay for another engine. Rebuilding a engine can get costy and just throwing a bearing in will not get it done right.

5. Suzukis batteries need an ocasional jump from a simplistic lawn mower to function properly.

yeah, 954s make a really irritating and scary sounding tick/light knock from the upper end. Believe it or not, they all do it to some extent.

And you are right, you never get away with replacing just a bearing. It will need at the very least a crank, bearings, and one or more rods if the motor had a loose rod. Typically right around $1500-2000 with parts and labor. Parts alone usually end up over $1200.

You better check the main bearin clearance before you do that. Used engine bearings are not big fans of going from case to case.

Shure they are just add a cup of "break-in sand" and hold it to the rev-limiter... it'll be just like new... :YEAH

Nope, I noticed his muffler bearing was defective also so it will still make noise.
