when i was a contractor i could come and go as i pleased as long as i gave a few days notice. Of course i didnt get paid if i didnt go to work, but I was ok with that.

The ones around here definately don't have the great benefits that I get working direct, but in lighting you have to prove yourself before they invest the $ to make you direct.

Ok that is a scam, but it is still cheaper for the company if they don't want to bring you in direct right away.

if you can take a week off with 1 days notice without catching any grief for it, then you dont have enough work to do in the first place

Re: OMR SUBCAGE [subframe cage]

Ok guy in your fields, who makes more $$, contractors or direct employees?

In my company, both the IT field and the aerospace field, contractors get paid 50%-100% more than employees, but are limited to 24 months.

Right now the guys who make the bigh bucks are the ones who were working for Ford through the booming 90's and got crazy raises.

contractors make TONS of money if they work in volatile countries where there's oil like nigeria or the middle east. i'm talking close to 200k or more. here, i'd say the direct employees are better off if u include benefits and what not. plus they are more secure... kinda. oil industry lays off frequently.
