SANTA BARBARA, Calif. (United Press International via COMTEX) -- At 14, Sam of Santa Barbara, Calif., is a three-time holder of the "World's Ugliest Dog" title but that has only endeared him more to his owner Susie Lockheed.
Lockheed, 53, enjoys massaging the pedigreed Chinese crested's fleshy, thin, potato-chip ears and running her fingers through the small patches of white hair on his head, report the Los Angeles Times.
Sam's hairless frame is littered with blackheads, brown warts and moles. Even his hindquarters have a large hernia lump, the report said.
"I've never had a dog this much in love with me," Lockheed said. "I really baby Sam, and kiss him a lot. He's a toad (that's) going to turn into a prince."
Sam is one of four hairless dogs that love to groggily lounge on the couch in Lockheed's home where she operates a beauty salon.
A year after Lockheed took in the dog without a home, she suffered a relapse of thyroid cancer, the Times said.
Her radioactive treatment required her to stay away from everyone for five days. Her entire room was covered in plastic because of radiation. But Sam stayed with her all the time. The two have been inseparable ever since.
