Slow stuff and streetable????
Slow stuff and streetable????
I love riding around the streets and messing around, but I want to get into slow stuff too. Why is everyone telling me that if I gear my bike for slow stuff it won't be streetable??
Re: Slow stuff and streetable????
u can rock most with stock gearing...
its just the point, gearing allows for somethings that u would need that engine braking for etc...
and also makes it easier for somethings...
but remember, if ur not good with throttle control yet, gearing will make it worse, bike is more twitchy so...ull get it though in not time
goodluck
what bike u got ?

It's a 96' Gixxer 750... I actually wanted a fuel injected one, but I guess I should have fully explained that to my mom. She ran out and bought one that she though looked cool, but had no idea what to get. I was all about a wrecked one that I could just straight stunt with and not care if I dropped it. I had an 02' Busa that I raced, and Lee from Ronin Riders can tell you all about that, so I figured my mom would at least try to grab a 2000. I picked up my sprokets and chain today, -1 +3, which is what everyones telling me to get. I didn't know that that lessin's the engine braking. Will it be that dramatic of a difference and should I really try to cover that rear brake.

It's not like that buddy, I just moved across the country from Jersey to Vegas to go to school, and I had to leave a lot behind, like all my friends, my job, etc... That was just something she wanted to do for me to help me cope with all my other losses. But anyway, OOOHHHH, it increases engine breaking, well thats good then, I don't really have anything to worry about. I know that long stoppies aren't good because of the carbs, is this kinda the same for long wheelies or is that a stupid question since the gas will be going to the bottom of the tank? Also, I was told to grab a T.R.E. , but I know it hurt my Busa's performance at the track, is it worth getting for the 750 for stunting or wil it not even really make a difference?
Re: Slow stuff and streetable????
usually the carb problems are related to flowth bowls, they don't give right fuel levels when the bike is not level. But usually they work pretty well during wheelies..efi works better, but some have tip over sensors, which need to be eliminated. TRE makes more power, but it's probably harder to control then. Some say go, others no. Get switchable(on/off) TRE.
-1 +3 is not that much, your speedo will be off, but it's very streetable still.

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????
i have 5+ ...
slow is harder...can't go too slow...it feels like its going to stall.
i commute 150 miles a week on the bike so im trying to make it comfortable for the street. i have no gauges but cruisin at 75, its whining out alittle.
carb'd bikes...i have no idea but fuel injected bikes are stronger, torque crazy.

to get rid of the tip over sensor you need to fill it with sylicone and it will solve all your problems. i think yours is near your battery but i could be wrong.

I thought the 96 -97's didn't have a tip over sensor.....those are usually only in fuel injected bikes 98 and up gixxers

Ok ok , about the Louie Viton Seats, the guy who had the bike before me put them on, I would never waste that kinda money on something like that, but I gotta tell ya, the chicks f'n love them.
But this info is really helping me out, thanks alot for all the positve comments fellas. Hopefully I'll have some stunting pic's up in a few weeks for eevryone

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????
I believe your post was to find out if you gear you bike for lots, will it effect you streetablility. Yes and no.
You will loose top end which is bad for everyday driving (aka running from the popo) and gas mileage (also aka running from the popo). But, this depends on where you want to go. I rocked my R1 with stock gears in the lots for a half a season, but once I started to get brake I needed to put some gear in it. I went -1 +7 and it was fine for a while, but once I started to slow it down enough to do circles and no throttle hand, the bike would stall.
Now I am on a 96 900RR and run -1 +19. I still can rock the fu(k outta the streets, but top out around 100 mph (6th gear rev limiter). The -1 +7 is the best comprimise for the street, but I wanted to take it a little further so I bought a stunter 900RR and kept my R1 with the gear also.
As for fuelie being better than carbs, yeah it is, but not untill you are hanging at low idle at BP for a long duration. If you are banging streets the carb bikes work fine and if you are in the lots, turn your idle up a little higher and once the bike "settles" at bp you should do fine.

I also wanted to throw in...My bike feels weak, like really weak... I don't know if I'm, just to used to the busa or not, but it's hard to even clutch it up in first sitting way back on the seat...I though it was something with the fuel, but I just had all the carbs re-done, and it feels smoother, but it still feels kinda slow...could something else be wrong although the motor feels like its running through clean??
