Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

I had two carb'b gsxr's and now have 2 FI 750's. I think you are not gonna be happy with carbs...just my opinion.

Tip over sensors and TRE's are for fuel injected only. They do make a plate that is easy to install for advancing the ignition and they are cheap. If your carbs are not perfectly tuned, it is likely your bike will die in high stoppies and high wheelies (especially 12's). Also likely to flood if you drop the bike on its side.

Not trying to discourage you, just giving my experience.

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

Carb topic.
~carbs suck. They bog my bike down, and I can't accel more than like 35-40mph. They get real clogged when 12'd. Gotta clean them out all the time.

Gearing and Streetable topic.
~you'll just lose top end and your speedo will be off, just like everyone is saying. And you will be able to rock on the street all you want. Just a little bit higher RPM winding out... You'll be in 6th gear going from stop sign to stop sign within 50 ft in the city.

Gear the hell outta that thing, You'll like it. :YEAH

I picked up my sprokets and chain today, -1 +3, which is what everyones telling me to get. I didn't know that that lessin's the engine braking. Will it be that dramatic of a difference and should I really try to cover that rear brake.

Your bike doesnt have a tip over sensor. And yes, cover the rear brake. Always cover the rear brake. The only bad thing bout carbed. zuks is that they flood real quick if you lay them over.

Haha, I'm actually sitting here right now debating on if I want to stomp on my gas tank or not...and Nasty, I like your thought's on gearing the hell out of it, If it doesn't come up as easy as I want it to with the **** I just got, I'll probably be calling up sproket specialists...

Damn, just looked at the pics of the bike, that thing is pretty damn pimp... If you want to keep it looking some what decent, check out MXD cages, they make them for Srads...

I had -1+3, its cool and all. But you might as well just keep it stock.. stock front with7-10up should work fine. I have stock front and +10 now. Not to bad on the streets, just whines alot more, and seems to go thru the gears quicker on the city streets.

And the carbs do suck ***, bike ran fine til my first spill... Still havent got them worked out yet.. Running better than before, but still not 100%. IM still trying to get some loot so I can get a f4i, but still keep the gix6 for the hell of it..

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

im up 10 on my 900rr, didnt really mess with my city riding, you just ride an 3rd or 4th instead of 2nd around town....as for gearing up that high and riding the free way, it can be done if you dont mind being in 6th gear and running 10,000 rpms to do 85...

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

My f2 never dies. It'll go all day at 10 mph. Fuel tank level makes a difference on bikes with no fuel pump though. If it's down to 1/3 of a tank then it does start sputtering. Above that, not a miss. It won't run on a parked 12 of course.

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

1 down 10 up on my 929 and i ride it every day on streets, interstate and highway. i gained about 1500rpms at 60mph, so it didn't make it unstreetable.

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

Well I have a different question then...people obviously want to gear there bike to be able to wheelie easier right...so why would anyone want to only gear a little, why wouldn't everyone just go like +10 ??

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

what?

Gear your bike out +10 and then then you'll know. Look, after you learn wheelies it doesnt matter what gearing you have, you can rock it out. Period.

BUT, if you spend 90% of your time in a lot, and 10% of the time riding TO the lot, then why NOT go up -1+13 (ala; me). If you ride 10 miles to work each day, then +10 may not be such a great idea, especially if you are only rocking wheelies once every 3 rides or something like that. Gas mileage also changes with large sprockets when riding highways. These are all things to consider. I chose to say *** it, cause I dont ride, I stunt. Period.

** edit - sorry, forgot to answer your question. -1 or maybe +2/3 is a good idea because from the factory, alot of bikes are geared hella' high. Its almost like they dont want you to be able to wheelie outta the show room floor. So a little gearing goes a LONG way for most bikes.

Just to add a side note to this...... that is why first gear is soooo long on the liter bikes too. They set the bikes from the factory with a long first gear and final drive so that you have to work at getting the front end off the ground. I like the -1 +7 on my R1 for street. If they made the gear box a little more stretched out and lowered the final drive. i.e. same first gear as I have with my -1 +7 but made the gear ratios slightly greater so that I would have a similar 6th gear and final drive as factory, that would be the BEST. But squids would be looping the hell outta bikes. I worked in auto racing and watched Ford GM and Dodge down tune the top cars so that they would be more squid driver friendly. Same thing with the bike manufactures. That's my drunken .

Re: Slow stuff and streetable????

i don't know about everyone else but on a bone stock liter bike i have never had problems just opening the throttle and having the front come up. they gear them the way they are so meet emissions and fuel consuption for the average consumer.

a lot of people just do like 1 down or maybe just 2 or 3 teeth up in the rear to give the bike a little more low end and throttle response.

only reason to go as big as like 1 down 10 up or 20 up or whatever is if you needed the torque for 5mph slow stuff or if you wanted the engine brake for doing spreaders and highchairs (stuff you do'nt have your foot on the rear brake for).
