929 rear brake problem

Does anyone else have any problems with their 929 rear brake. It just seems like I have to mash the brake hard to get it to work. The fluids are fresh and its bleed fine, good pads. It just seems like I have to give it a lot of pressure to get it to grab. My buddy has a 900rr and you barely tap his brake and it grabs great. Any ideas??????????

Re: 929 rear brake problem

Never had a problem on mine. What kind of pads are you using? Stock pads work good, i switched to ebc kevlars and i noticed that i need a little more pressure on them than the stock pads, but i like them better because they are smoother. put HH pads on it, you won't need much pressure then...haha. i hate the HH pads for slow stuff though, they bite too hard.

i did notice that my rear brake was kinda funny when i bled it, it took some work to get it bled and a pressure bleeder. get it at a parts store for 30$. While i was using the pressure bleeder i also tapped on the caliper with a brass hammer to release any trapped bubbles.

and someone else had the problem with their rotor and pads being glazed from getting them too hot. I don' tknow much about this, but i would say if your rotor was glazed then new pads wouldn't help too much, maybe try to scuff up your rotor with some 1000 grit sandpaper or emory board or something if that's the case.

I got stock pads. I'll try to scuff my rotor cause one day they got really hot cause I was riding the brake trying to learn rear brake control. thanks

Re: 929 rear brake problem

I was thinking of putting hh. I guess I'll try them and see. Do you like the steel braided lines? I recently put some on the front of my 929 and I dont really care for them. Maybe I just got to get used to them. thanks

Re: 929 rear brake problem

Justin and another guy (D) in out group both have 929's. They both have the same problem. D has changed his master cylinder, line (to braided), caliper, pads, scuffed the rotor, and bleed the **** out of it. No change. It's not that they don't work.....It takes ALOT of pressure....probably more pressure than you are thinking it takes. My F3 dosen't take anything. We all are mechanically inclined and this has got us stumped. I still am thinking it is the master cylinder for some reason (gut feeling) although it dosen't make sence b/c on D's bike it was replaced once. It is not spongy at all so it is bleed properly. I'm just baffled

Re: 929 rear brake problem

do'nt run HH pads....they have too much bite. i tried them and it makes it really hard to do slow stuff cause you'll touch the brake and it will bite and then knock you off balance...they aren't real smooth with engaging like stock or kevlar are.

Mine is bone stock and i have brakes. Even mechanics have a hard time bleeding them. Usually there is a bubble that gets trapped in them and you have to use a vacuum bleeder and take the caliper off and move the caliper around while you are vaccuum bleeding it to get those trapped air bubbles out. try that and then see if it works. I did that to mine one day just messing around and low and behold a huge airbubble was trapped in the caliper.

Re: 929 rear brake problem

I guess I will have to get a pressure bleeder and give it a try. thanks

Re: 929 rear brake problem

ya, let us know how it turned out.

mine was a bioch to bleed until i got that vaccuum bleeder and took the caliper off and moved it around. Now i got a system down that works pretty good.

Re: 929 rear brake problem

i had the same problem or at least i thought..... if your bracket is bent, your **** will feel like gabage.... i would just change out the bracket (if it's bent) and leave everything else stock, cause stock is the ****.....

good luck!

My rear brake is ****!! I've tried everything except HH's. I was wondering if there could be a problem from a bent brake lever or bent bracket. Both of mine are bent. Steel braided lines made it a little better, but it takes way to much pressure to get them to bite. I can't figure the problem out!! I now the HH's bite hard, but I'm gonna try them and see if it will work since my brake doesn't bite at all. I don't see how a bent lever or bracket cause all these F'n problems??????

Re: 929 rear brake problem

I got the same problem with the 929. I think I have turned the rear and front rotors back to iron(30,000 miles). I got new/used rotors on the way I was hoping that would cure it. if not I guess I would have to go to the vacuum bleed or check for bent parts as stated above.

or you dished the rotor when you got it really hot. mine was dished so bad it was rubbing the caliper bracket. put new pads on it till my new stock **** came in=the worst brakes ever.

put a strait edge on that rotor, ill bet it only touches the top and bottom.
