Buying ex stunt bike, i have some questions.

Ok guys,
I have a good lead on buying an ex stunt bike. It's a 93 cbr900rr. It's fured out in black fur and came from the tampa area. The kid i'm getting it from didn't know how to ride and wrecked it. It needs a new left handlebar, clutch lever, and shift lever. I will be using this to ride for about the next year and then it will be a stunt bike after that. Since I know it used to be a stunt bike, is there anything I should look at to make sure it's in good shape. Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Re: Buying ex stunt bike, i have some questions.

ex stunt bikes and salvage title bikes are fine if key things are good on them. listen to the motor and see how it sounds to make sure it's not on it's last leg. Check to see if the rims are in good condition, the forks aren't bent or leaking, head bearings (triple tree) is tight, there are no stress cracks in the frame or swingarm, it's not missing bolts. that should be about it. once you get it, re-tighten all teh bolts on it, check foot pegs for cracks, change the oil and probably lube everything over real good. it's a definate must for checking all the bolts and re-tightening them though.

Cool,
Thanks for all the advice. I know 900RR's are solid bikes. I'm picking it up for $800, so I can't beat it. I figure i'll maybe throw $1000 or so into it, to fix everything, new chain, new tires, ect. I may leave it fured (is that even a word) or throw some race plastic on it. Any certain areas on the frame that are more prone to cracking? Anything else to look out for?

engine mounting tabs and the tabs on the frame, and around the steering head. also check the subframe mounts, those crack sometimes too.

damn i want to be able to get a 900rr for 800 bucks. you can fix that with the clipon, and shift assembly, and pegs for mebbe 200 dollars on ebay and bam you got a decent bike. **** how it looks if its a stuntbike it really doesn't matter, expecially if it is your first. dont put to much money into the plastics because your just gonna bust the hell outta them again.

frames are cheap on eGay my man, even if it may be cracked you still only paid 800 for it, so you will have plenty left over if everything is mechanically sound, just make sure you change everything fluid before you run it

Make sure it does'nt knock, 93' engines have a shitty oiling system. Sounds like a good deal I just picked a 93' ex stunt bike up myself. had to put a motor in mine though.
