SPORT BIKE FREESTYLE HAS IGNITED A SPARK IN THE SPORT BIKE INDUSTRY
NEW TEAMS ARE POPPING UP NATIONWIDE

In what has exploded from one event in August of 2001, the X-treme Sport Bike Association (XSBA) has set the precedence for Freestyle Sport Bike competitions across North America. The first Freestyle event of its kind was announce in early 2001 to take place at the famous Pocono Cycle Festival in Long Pond Pennsylvania with great anticipation. After the event which drew over 20 of America's top Freestyle Stunt riders, one rider, Pauly Sherer of "Las Vegas Extremes" was crowned "King of Pocono" and would hold the first XSBA Freestyle title.

With four events announce for the 2002 season, this underground sport now saw a legitimate form of competition and a true series in which to crown its Champions. The four events would take place at Summit Point in West Virginia, Road America in Elkhart Lake Wisconsin, a return to the Pocono Cycle Festival, and the final round at Portland Int'l Raceway's Rose City Cycle Festival in Portland Oregon. The XSBA National Freestyle Series built momentum as the first of its kind with other promoters jumping on the bandwagon promoting individual events with mixed results. Some events drew large numbers of amateur riders with little to no spectators, and some with large numbers of spectators without the larger teams present. The XSBA has maintained both elements consistently, with Pocono showcasing 36 of North America's top stunt teams and some of the most exciting action ever, and crowned Thew Blankstrom of "Ten Ninety 6" the first XSBA Freestyle Series National Champion.

Throughout the 2002 XSBA season, the media has taken hold of this new sport and has dedicated as much print space as it did the road race events in which the Freestyle events took place. Local newspapers presented the sport as the new and exciting event that would be the next Freestyle Moto-cross, drawing large crowds to see insane and unbelievable tricks specialized by professional riders and drawn from the underground street culture of drag racing and stunt riding. In 2002 the XSBA has been featured on 4 motorcycle magazine covers and has appeared in over 6 magazine issues, and all of this for only 4 events in 2002 with more to come.

Most of the top teams are now producing videos that resemble a music video with performances set to music and candid shots of the teams perfecting their craft. Some of the top teams have sold well over 10,000 copies of their video creating a strong residual income and opportunities for them to become more specialized and build a resume, also creating opportunities to perform in front of other captive audiences at drag races, motorcycle shops, and special events, such as the Formula USA / Championship Cup Series Race of Champions at Daytona Int'l Speedway in October, during "Biketoberfest" activities. At Daytona fans saw a single Freestyle event, which was by invitation only and featured 20 of America's top riders, and was won by 18 year-old Chauncey Vieira of "Driving to Endanger". A new world record was also set by Joe Brown of "Triple X-treme" in a competition measuring the longest stoppie, (or endo), which was set at 475 feet. A distance of 500 feet was measured, however there was a fault on the start, which disqualified the run. Most riders that competed will normally roll well over 500 feet.

The sport of Sport Bike Freestyle has ignited a spark in the sport bike industry and more teams are popping up nationwide, with more media paying attention to them. 2003 will bring even more events, more riders, more fans, more media, more sponsors, and more money for the motorcycle industry as a whole. Stay tuned, and visit www.XSBA.com for schedules, team and sponsor links, as well as updates and details on the 2003 season.
