Used Tires?

How many of you guys run used tires on your rides? I bought a brand new M1 rear not too long ago and now it's total poo poo cause of the rolling burnout learning process. It's such a nice tire (or was). I told myself "No MOre Burnouts!" but the next day I was doing them again. I can't help it. IT's so fun and I want to get better. So I'm thinking bout getting used tires, but that does seem kind of sketch.

Do any of you guys do this? How have you found them to perform?

Keep in mine I still do a fair amount of non-stunting street riding with my friends.

Thanks for any input.

Always get a good tire for the front and just run freebies on the rear

like race takeoffs ??

I get em for free or like $20 a pop from racers, with like 4-5 track laps on them (although they are usually already balled up, they still got plenty of stunt/street life left on them)

used _street_ tires are a different story, depends on condition, but I dunno.. I don't think I've bought a 'new' tire in years haha

hit up your local performance/racing shop and ask if they have takeoffs for sale..

or even ask for their throwaway's that have any life left on em and use THOSE for burnouts, hitup your 'spot' and then come back in 20 minutes and ask for more actually shops have to PAY for disposal of used tires..

race take offs are good for the front, but i think that they get too sticky for the rear when doing burnouts. i try to use a good used tire on the rear, just because you know that you will always be wasting them.

Be careful about front tires, but for back tires whatever got tread on goes a long way

Ok cool. I'll ask some local shops if they have any junkers lying around.

What's the difference between a race takeoff and a regular used tire? Not the same?

race takeoff = 10 laps of hell, corners like jelly from 100mph+ bends, but middle like new (no chicken strips)

regular used = regular riding, hopefully even wear on all the sides, depends on how many miles and riding habits

we change our own tires & have never balanced a single one, a good way to break the bead is run the tire over with the car, truck or 4 wheeler, use towels so you do not scratch the hell out of the rim

New pilots on the front whatever I can find for the rear. Race takeoffs on the rear suck too sticky and the last one I burned off it took 20 min to cut it off.

yep

New fronts and used rears......dont be scared to run a plug in the rear either........they WILL NOT fail.....we as a team have ran a good 100 plugged tires in the last couple years and I have yet to have one fail on me. They will leak if you get the tire so thin that you have cords coming through....but thats about time to blow the tire up anyway!!!

Mellen

PS......if you plan on big stoppies...I dont recommend a Dunlop D-207....to hard. Go with a race compound or at least a brand new street compound Michelin or Avon...they hook up good. I had an Avon AV-49 on my bike and loved it....now I run a race compund

The hard part is to break the bead, unless you change the tires on the regular. Use a heel bar and a big hammer and beat the hell out of the bead. Or run the tire (ONLY THE TIRE) over with the car or truck. And then take it off like you do a bicycle. WINDEX or WD40 MAKES IT EASIER
