Are all model year 900rrs created equal?

so i've been wondering this for awhile. the 900rr was in production for a good amount of time. what changes took palce to the bike over the years? i mean is a 98 going to kill a 93 or a 95 if you wanna stunt them? or are they all pretty much the same as far as engine performance goes? who cares about the headlight design but what about the suspension setup/swingarm etc.

thanks!

one of the main differences in the motor for stunting is baffalds. 98 is the first year to have em in the oil pan. they almost end oil starvation on one wheel. im on my second motor for my 93 because of that. the 98 also has the 919 motor insted of th 893cc which give you some extra horses. then in 00 came the 929 with fuel injection. there always making them better.

up to and including the 929 its been getting better and better, i rode and took a brief look at the design and config of the 954 and see that the more extreme we get in this sport and the damaging getting more intense, i dont think the 954 will hold its own considering its swingarm/frame/engine configuration, maybe it makes for a stiffer chassis, but, imagine breaking the swingarm mounts on the motor, what do you do?..buy a new motor?..

i dont know... my .02

The motors, suspension, brakes, and looks all improved over the years but from what I know none of them are bad.

if you stunt a motorcycle-you can plan on rebuilding your motor-get the cheapest 900 you can find and through 50 bucks at it every time it breaks

oil starvation is and always will be an issue with the 93-97 RRs. there are some things you can do to help but not sovle the problem. the only reason honda put the baffolds in the 98 is because a guy would buy a brand new 900 and do wheelies throw a rod and bend the crank. then use that great off the show room floor warrente and honda would pay to replace the motor. i spent about $1500 in the end to replace my motor, far from $50. if you plan on riding a wheelie more than a 1/2 mile or doing 12's i would recomend a 98, but that just me. granted a stunt bike is going to get nothing but beat up on but i would rather spend a little more money up front then to replace motors later on. i say all this when i ride a 93, but when i destroy this motor ill be puting a 98-up motor in it.

So will an oil pan from a 98 fit on the older RR's? Or how bout just add some baffles into the early model pans? 97 and under are sooo much cheaper than the 98-99's.

i think that the oil pan will fit, thats something i was told i could do but never tryed. i do know that you cant put baffalds in the 97-under. i guess thats one reason why there some much cheaper.
