Oil Choice?
Oil Choice?
i know this is kinda one of those topics that people will agree to disagree - but i want to gather as much info as possible..
i heard some (in my opinion) choices that make absolutely no sense, but from very reliable people lol like the Diesel oil, and additives and what not.. sounds ludacris, but apparently many people run that with no problems.
my 2 cents is i started with lucas full synthetic for wet clutches.. read on my box (EBC) don't use full synthetic (although from what i understand, that's there because not all synthetics work with wet clutches.
to be safe, i swapped to Lucas synthetic blend - everything was solid.
did an oil change and tried out yamalube - conventional (apparently that's what the bike was "designed for" and would give the best results.)
trip on this though, doing wheelies in second gear became much harder - i had to really rev her up high to get it to pop up like it used to..
make sense?
personally i feel like the lucas synth-blend is gonna be my goto, and im not "super" concerned about cost.
and also, i heard some crazy **** like using damn near 6 quarts?? that Will be double my bikes capacity, and i feel like that can be very bad news.. is that bike specific? i got a 05R6
im fairly mechanically inclined, so I'd rather custom fab a oil pickup line that extends to the rear..... i guess on a random sidenote, anyone experienced with that?
thanks for your time.

Re: Oil Choice?
2 best/cheapest oils are Mobil 1 4T and Rotella T6. all meet or exceed OEM specs. Many offroad guys swear by the Rotella T6 and I know alot of street guys run it. Its JASO and MA certified which is what you look for in oil for a high reving wet clutch oil. Those oils are just as good as Maxima, Motul, Belray, AmsOil and any other high quality premium oil, at a fraction of the cost. Change the oil every 2000 miles and the motor should last forever.

Re: Oil Choice?
that makes sense then, i guess on my next clutch set I'll try the conventional yamalube. it's cheap enough that it's a nonissue. and while i got my "synthetic clutches" in, I'll try out the T6 and such.
I'm not one of those guys that are at the rev limiter for 20 minutes at a time, and over 10k for 90% of their ride.. so realistically, the demand on my oil isn't that extreme.
thanks a million y'all.

Re: Oil Choice?
all yamalube is trash. might be fine in their non performance motors like 4x4 ATV's but any tight toleranced motor like a sport bike, race quad or dirt bike, you want a better quality oil. Despite how YOU ride, the motor still requires the additives of the better quality oils. T6 and Mobil 1 4T are great and are affordable.
Re: Oil Choice?
Useful information I use Mobil 1 and change every 2000 miles. By the way, for my Ford I also use Mobile 1, on this site oil for turbocharged engines you can find out about the best oils for cars, just in general, I'm new to the automotive world, but I trust proven brands.
