1000 Highway Wheelies
1000 Highway Wheelies
Man i just got home from riding, it was a pretty crazy night. Just started doing highway wheelies tonight. Second gear i can just crank on the throttle and pull back and it will stand up. I can ride it through about 130 in second gear before i start losing power and have to set it down. I pulled it up in third gear a couple of times too, but you have to go really fast to get it to start coming up. It does seem to pull to the right a little bit when i have it up though? Any suggs. on how to keep em straight?
why the hell are you going 130 in second? I stand my boy's g1K up in second at about 50 and keep it there .... his **** is stock too. no reason to be doing 130, that is too dangerous and out of control ...
BUT congrats on the first time highway standups!!
BUT congrats on the first time highway standups!! when your doin the high speed stuff, the balance point moves forward.........you don't have to go as far back as the slow seppe stuff. I've been bouncing all my standups but everyone here says to clutch it up no matter what you do. I'm gonna start clutch'n it up more and see how I like it. Cover that rear brake when you're tryin to bring it back to balance point. I've looped 2 high speed *****'s and it sucks!

I used to think you had to haul @$$ to bring bikes up in whatever gear too, but I've learned that it's technique more than anything. Especially w/ a an 03g1k you should be bringing that thing up super slow in the 1st 3 gears somewhat easily. Basically just be going slow in 2nd (45-50) and just practice skooting back in conjunction w/ rolling off the throttle then snapping back on. Once you get the timing right that thing will lift right up.
If you've been riding for a long time and can work your clutch pretty well then that's a more consistent way of getting up.
Like others said...work on your standups....it's easy to control the bike that way and you'll be able to see where you're going at balance point.
Be pacient and practice as often as possible. If you want it you'll get it.

Hey i got a 03 1000 and that bike is fast as hell. I don't suggest doing 130mph wheelies sittin down. You can't control the bike as well and when you are moving that fast you better be under control or your gonna kill yourself. Try using the clutch when you get it up. With stock sprockets you can rip it up in 2 gear at like 3 grand. Just goose the throttle and slip the clutch. the same goes for the rest of the gears you just have to give it a little more gas each gear you go up. In 4 5 and 6th gears you might have to yank it, clutch it and throttle it, but im telling you that bike will lift up in every gear. Just be carefull if you are just learning wheelies. That is awhole lot of bike, and if you don't know how to control that power it can get you in some hairy situations. Good luck.
Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have i big problem getting the wheelies up or anything, i can get it up in the first three gears. I just have to learn to keep my speed steady and not accelerate so much. I don't wanna go that fast in case something happens and i go over. I have asked the guys that i ride with and they say that i am getting it up high enough. I can't go back much further or i will go over. Just gonna keep on practicing them.
