stupid *** electronics

i have a k7 gsxr 750 and the electronics are going hay wire. if i turn the key the guages will have a faint red light in the back but no lights or mirror lights but sometimes the healights just jolt on and off sometimes. when my headlights come on my run lights turn off vise versa. my speedometer and odometer stopped working as well my speedometer just stays at zero the whole time and my odometer stays right at 9097. i know im just going to get some answers like there is a short somewhere, but where?! i had the guages off tonight and i lifted up the tank and scoped that out. i just dont know where to go next. i dont want to go to a shop and shell out 300 bones. can any one put me in a direction on where to go to get this **** fixed im open to anything. not mechanically inclined at all but im trying to learn my way around this kind of stuff so if you got anything feel free to add any advice. thanks

Re: stupid *** electronics

To be honest, it'll take less time and aggravation to just swap out the whole harness. I swapped mine and it took less than an hour. You can probably get one in the classifieds here anywhere from 50-100 bucks. hopefully your ecu is good. I wouldn't try a new one till you are sure there isn't a problem in the harness. You might cook another ecu if that's the case. Good luck.

Re: stupid *** electronics

i just think im going to take the bike apart and check everything on the wiring harness. i did a stoppie one night and it tipped to the left and landed on the cage it started up fine and eberything was working alright. the next day the gauges had a delay when i started the bike and soon the delay got longer and longer untill my headlights woudnt even come on. then one day the speedometer just stuck at zero and my odometer stopped working. so i dont really know where to go after that im not mechanically inclined at all and my game plan is to tear the bike down and make shore there isnt a short or a wire sticking out anywhere and i just dont know if there are any key points i should check out or if there was a simple solution i just dont know about

Re: stupid *** electronics

Simple first step is to check voltage on the battery. Then the connections of terminals. Then the fuse box may have a bad connection. If not those then examine the wire harness

Re: stupid *** electronics

alright where is the fuse box located under the seat? and where the fudge do i find the wiring harness? i think its a short or something and not the battery becuase the gauges flicker and stay on sometomes and then dont work at all other times but the speedometer and the odometer dont work at all. when the gauges go out i can usually just do a wheelie and come down and it turns on sometimes

Re: stupid *** electronics

no there should be a rubber boot on the back of the cluster [the thing that tells you the speed ].pull that back and there should be a clip holding the wires in .check and see if any are loose bye turning the bike on and wiggeling the wires around or try to push the clip in . mine broke and i had to glue it in

try that
