Re: what you do not want to hear from your bike
what happened? Have you found out yet?
Doesn't sound like a rod bearing to me. Sounds like it could just be something stupid that broke off or is clanking around
If you haven't checked it out, drain the oil, and catch some in a clear glass... Then look through the glass with a bright light, if there is gold particles definitely a shot rod bearing, if there isn't any gold you might have a ez fix
And a piece of advice to anyone, change your oil like your life depends on it! I change the oil in my sport bike every 500-1500 miles MAX, usually around 600-1000.. I change my dirt bikes oil every 4-10 hours depending on how much I'm riding it. oil changes are the most important thing to the life of your motor! My friend would go 4k-4.5k on oil changes on his 2005 600rr, his rod bearing seized at 16k miles!
I got 40k miles on my f4i, and I use $2/qt super tech oil, hitting rev limiter daily, still to this day.

not yet, he will though, he just put this one in a week ago, so it is pretty upsetting, but do not know the extent of the problem yet

Re: what you do not want to hear from your bike
no lie, i used to go 6 and 7k miles before id change the oil on my 03 r6, i beat the **** out of that bike. only used regular oil and sometimes the oil would get so thick my oil light would come on lol. sold that bike with 42k hard miles on it still running like a champ. talked to the dude about 2 years after that and it was still running with no problems. i do change my oil regularly now and use amsoil synthetic but my experience with my first r6 makes me question the validity of what youre saying a little bit.
You only need to change oil every 3k or so on a regular bike under regular uses of course. But stunt miles are a lot harder, and usually in 1st gear, so I wouldn't go more then 1500 MAX on a stunt bike personally..
Same for a race bike, I'd be changing the oil a lot more often since most the run time on the bike would be over 10k rpm
I'm pretty sure the reason my friends 600rr died was lack of oil changes. Or at least not changing the oil on time certainly didn't help. When his engine locked up, I drained the oil (it was at about 4500 miles on that oil change) and it was solid black, thick, and was closed to sludge lol. Also had a good amount of gold particles in it

And when it comes to dirt bikes (ESPECIALLY the modern 4 stroke race bikes), they only hold 1-2 quarts usually, and they have lots of blow by, and many people have sent their oil in for analysis, and find it has broken down a lot in as little as 5 hours.
Of course sport bikes hold more oil, don't have as much blow by, and aren't ran in as dirty of conditions or ran nearly as hard, so you don't need to change oil that often in a sport bike.
Just my personal recommendation from what I've read and seen, I cringe when people slack off on oil changes.
I'd say 2000-3000 for a regular ez driver on a bike, 500-1500 max for a stunter, and hell a racer, I'd say 500 or even a lot less
After 1k miles the oil comes out golden, still looking new from my f4i with 40k miles

Fluids are cheap enough, and easy enough to change, I change them all regularly. Brake fluid changed every 1-2 years on all my vehicles, coolant flushed every couple years, hell I even change the fork oil in bikes that have a lot of miles/years on old oil. I even take my dirt bike apart at least once a year, sometimes twice, and disassemble, clean, and grease every suspension component.

Of course you could also just beat on a bike for a few years, and pawn your bike off onto someone else who will run into the issues. But if you stick with a bike, definitely a good idea to take care of it in the long run

Re: what you do not want to hear from your bike
Also btw I'm not saying more expensive higher end oil doesn't last longer, or doesn't lube better.
Just the most important thing is changing it on time, so you aren't running oil that is broken down and dirty. Especially on a bike motor that shares clutch oil with the rest of the motor.
I personally just run super tech, mobile clean 5000, or rotella T. I didn't like the rotella once I realized my f4i took twice as long to build oil pressure when cold (instead of taking like 1-2 seconds, it'd take 3-4) same thing with my car, twice as long to get pressure on start up
And super tech oil filter for $2.50 lol

Re: what you do not want to hear from your bike
But Towliee i'll drop the oil in the next few days and take a look. My engine guy says its just as expensive to rebuild as to get a used motor if the bottom end shitted out.
It sounds like mostly out of the top end. but it went away a little after this video for the most part and then came back..
Re: what you do not want to hear from your bike
atleast you was knockin the rust off, now the key is to get back before the rust builds up again lol
