Re: f4i cdi up in smoke

i would be willing to bet somewhere in your harness a wire rubbed through and is shorting out on the frame or engine , goodluck with that

Re: f4i cdi up in smoke

the CDI or the voltage regulator?

Check the voltage, if its overvolting it could fry stuff

and if your cdi is 'cracked' then it had to have been damaged somehow.. All the voltage in the world wouldn't crack it..
slamming down between your frame rails repeatedly could crack it

Re: f4i cdi up in smoke

Just get a new(used) wire harness off of ebay and use it as a piece to cut good wires out of to swap out with the fried. The same thing happened to me awhile ago.

Re: f4i cdi up in smoke

believe it of not that batteries can bounce around quite a bit. Me and some of the guys I ride with have taken that foam wrap that you get on the big rolls from Uline for packing and wraped it around our batteries to keep them in the holder tight and to fight vibration. I know some of the F4i's, I think the older ones had the CDI/ECU sitting atop the battery. wrap it up and for sure check your harness. If you have to, take it out, untape it and check the entire thing, then retape it.
