Re: help deciding for cage

I would recommend TygerShark if you plan to hit up twisties... I've yet to see ATOWN's work but I think his has an under engine loop like a sick innovations does.

I have a sick innovations cage on mine and the loop gets close to scraping with aggressive riding. I had friends with TygerShark cages that had no problems because there is not a loop underneath. I know FI cages scrape like a mad man, seen it before, don't go that route ever!

You could always go with the garbage Powers race rails, but expect to fix **** when your girl drops it. Last time I checked the only "cages" allows on the local track was tygershark or powers because there was no loop under the motor.

I hear ATOWN's **** is nice, I just don't have an opinion on it since I haven't seen it or ridden with it yet.

Sounds to me like you need one with the most clearance, but your giving up protection I think.

Lots of thinking, ATOWN prove me wrong... I'm too lazy to search right not for photos of your work.

Are you teaching her to ride, like use the brake and throttle or teaching her how to hit bp kinda ride? I don't think you need a cage unless your teaching her how to stunt. Get some good frame sliders and call it good.

i dont have any video of the cage in corners. then again we dont hit corners around hear we just do wheelies the cage will go low without hitting but if your planing track days or anything like that i would go with a set of race rails. what im wondering is what bike this is for?

Your over in Wiscony? No ****... I'm going to have to come over and visit your shop. Ha ha ha, your not a Packers fan are you? Just warming up enough here in the Twin Cities to ride again. I'm going to build another f4i this year and will be getting in touch with you for some stuff. I think I'm retiring the 636 until I can afford that spiffy new stunt frame!

Sorry for the thread jack, beat me if you want to.

+1000...impaktech FTW!!!!....they are sleek to the bike, not super heavy like others, lifetime warranty on the welds, and hands down the BEST cage on the market IMOi have been running them for over 2 years with no broken welds or tube failures...they are super tight to the fairings and dont scrape on drifts or corners www.myspace.com/impaktech for pics/prices...compare Sons designs to ANY other cage and you will quickly figure out how they are in a class of their own....

Re: help deciding for cage

A-Town out of what you asked..... Frame sliders don't do ****, unless you have about 6 of them. Still keep an extra stator and stator cover on hand... not to mention rearset mounts and pegs, a new exhaust can, rear plastics, levers and bar ends. Then you will be OK. If it's a Kawi... hit me up for all the extra stuff you need. I will get you a good deal on all the stuff mentioned. Should be around $2800.... Oh, or just buy a good cage... but that brings us back to A-Town again. I'm sure he'll make you a deal though, maybe $2799???

Frame sliders work fine for learning to ride, just make sure they are long enough and strong enough. I think he is talking about teaching his girl to learn to ride not stunt man. I doubt she is dropping it from 12 when learning how to use throttle and break to put around a lot. Don't buy crappy sliders, you may end up with some real issues, just like buying a crappy cage.

No reason to spend $200+ on a stunt cage when all you need are street sliders or race rails. Just my

Get some extra long bar ends and swing arm sliders if you want even more protection, your still spending less than a stunt cage and it will be just fine. Be sure to buy quality parts or your screwed.

The local MSF course buys all their parts from us. They teach on Eliminator 125's and they buy about $400 worth of levers (brake and clutch) at a time.... and that's at super-discount cost. On a sportbike, that left side is as fragile as an egg..... That's if you don't trash the plastics. A guy two months ago, bought a new ZX10 after he graduated the motorcycle safety course, and I told him he needed a cage on that thing. He bought frame sliders instead.... I jokingly told my parts guy to write up a wreck estimate.... One week later, new plastics, levers, bar ends.....OH, and a cage. That was just the RIGHT side....... Have you priced that stuff OEM?? A stator and cover will run you about $400... good cage about $250

Frame sliders on the Ninja 250 are $109, you know how many ninja 250's come back totaled or for insurance claims? We could have one full-time tech during the spring and summer just for the wrecked sportbikes, and his *** would be rich. Where do you think I get all my plastics I sell on ebay?? ZX6, ZX10 and Ninja 250 galore!!!

Re: help deciding for cage

My girl dropped my old bike when I was teaching her how to ride. I had frame sliders, long bar ends, and a swing arm slider. She dropped it three times before she stopped trying. Total replacement cost $60 for replaceable damaged sliders and bar ends. Bike looked exactly the same in less than 20 minutes of swapping stuff out. I did this when I first got my new 636 in '05. The bike is till around today, and the only damage to it is from me being rough on it, not her learning. Your guy on the ZX10, I'll bet he knew everything about bikes because he rocked a 125cc before. He is talking about teaching his girl, not some know it all going to wad it in the corner at 90mph.

The only thing that broke off and was not replaceable was the welded on threaded hole for the left side swing arm slider, but I didn't mind. My cage went on it two months later.

Re: help deciding for cage

I think everyone should work at a busy dealership for just one summer. One that sells a lot of sportbikes. You don't know comedy until you see 200 douchebags wreck their **** within the first week. Half of which won't make it out of the parking lot the first day... Some of them will wreck 2-4 times before they get out of the lot. 100% of them will act like they know more than me (or another sales person) and are too cool to take my advice.... Just like on Maury... the ones who are the most obnoxious and talk the most ****, eat the most crow and look the dumbest.... The absolute best is working at a dealership that has security cameras to record the action.

My buddy worked at Harley Davidson.... A ******* douche bought a Buell XB12R (about 100 hp) and tried to ride it the first time in front of the dealership, just bought insurance 15 minutes before that..... dumped the clutch, ate **** and took out 12 brand new Soft Tails... Only carried $25k in property damage.... He did over $100k in damage to the bikes. One was totaled. All on video. That same dealership hosts the Harley sponsored rider's course, and have had TWO fatalities..... All from putting around the parking lot.

Re: help deciding for cage

Wow, some people just shouldn't be on bikes.

Still he stated he is not stunting and a cage is overkill, protective gear is something else you dealerships in Texas should force people to wear when they are buying their first bikes. Go figure, people die on a hardley wearing a skull cap and no gear learning to ride. That is not new, and $10 says alcohol was involved. I'm from Texas originally and I have seen what your talking about many times in Houston.

That is just Darwinism, survival of the fittest.

I just think your not catching what the OP is saying, he is not stunting, and not all street bikes NEED a stunt cage. The only reason to get a stunt cage is if your going to give it more abuse than normal.

Don't ever buy offset sliders, either cut your plastics for a good slider or brake your engine mount when your girl drops it with the offset slider.

Also, common sense, don't practice near expensive ****.

Tyger Shark all the way

A-town is a shin buster plus Sick innovations gets destroyed soo fast, and ive seen them destroy motor mounts.

Atown and Impaktech are way overbuilt cages. All that force needs to be disbursed somewhere.. Thats why TygerShark has the best design. The springs along with the Rubber insulator inside AND each side be separate from each other give a nice cushion on impact.

Remember when choosing a cage BIGGER isint better!!!!!

Another Reason why FI is an AWESOME cage... All the force from a fall is on the slider and motor mount bolt... So when you slam the bike into the ground it usually breaks or bends the motor mount bolt and the bolt that holds the slider to the cross bar.. I'd rather replace two bolts then need to buy a cage or have a broken motor mount..

1. You work for Atown!!!
2. I rode an f4i with an atown cage last Tuesday..
3. You obviously dont know your physics..

When gymnastics are putting in work and they come in for a dismount. Do they land on the hard floor or do they land on something soft in order to take away some of the force?!?!?!?!?!
