636 running hot
Re: 636 running hot
You're not using tap water are you (I'm sure your not)? Calcium deposits will wreck your radiator. RO or distilled would be the key. Anyone planning on running plain water needs to be careful of the corrosive qualities it will have on the aluminium core and change it frequently.

engine ice works if you read the directions and use it right.i use it in all my bikes.my lot bike is an 06 636 and the temp run between 8-12degrees cooler than it used to useing it.
Re: 636 running hot
stop lying, you're talking about josh which was MY BIKE in 2005. he owned it for like 4 months and it never ran hot so you have no idea what you're talking about.
Re: 636 running hot
mine has the same problem. i tried ice and fucked up my fill so psycho jim helped me out and told me i had gel clogging my rad. and i did a super thorough flush and had no problems since. i actually just went and rode today and ran around 170-180 while moving and in the lot and city ran like 214 tops since the fan comes on about 210.
if you're up to 230-240+ you def have a problem. i believe then shutdown somewhere around 250 and 240 is dangerously close to that. id try every trick these guys say to get that lower.

there's no "shutdown"....warped heads causing a headgasket failure is the only way it shuts down when it's too hot.
Re: 636 running hot
oh fair enough. haha yeah warped heads is kinda like a permanent shutdown haha. some kid with a cbr1k (not to be confused with a cbr1000) told me his bike shut down at like 253 or something that he had a light that would come on and shut his bike off.
whatever the case....230 is questionable....240 is just crazy.

they can't put a switch like that in a bike because it's a liability. If you were racing around a track and temps were too high and the bike shut off the rear tire would instantly lock and you would go down.
if you overheat the engine and blow a head gasket hte engine will still run, although not well. If you had an accident because of it then it's your fault for blowing it up and not the manufacturer for putting a switch that shuts the bike off.
Re: 636 running hot
i have an 03 w/ a ndc radiator cage and a 08 r1 fan and stock fan wired on w/ ignition, never saw it get over 210 rideing hard! usually runs around 185-190.... its awsome! (except when my second fan came unplugged once, then it went right up to 230 quick!
Re: 636 running hot
if the temp is getting up that high and you've got plenty of coolant and the fan comes on, then its most likely your thermostat....check it out homie...
Re: 636 running hot
you can use a toggle i did on my last bike but id go into work with it running and forget about it and come back a few hours later and have a dead battery. wire it to igintion power and as soon as you take your key out your fan is off. that way you have no draw, no forgetting about your toggle switch..... its less thinking that way. but to each their own.
Re: 636 running hot
run a wire from your fuse box... one that comes on w/ your key.(be sure you put it on the side of the fuse that is not the supply side or your fan circuit will not be protected by the fuse) then unplug the sending unit from the radiator, use a test light and test the two wires. one will have power all the time, the other doesnt, hook the wire you ran from the fuse box to the wire on the radiator sw. that doesnt have power....wha-la you turn your key on and magicaly your fan comes on w/ your key
