about to ride, couple questions
about to ride, couple questions
I'm about to ride out to a spot I found on google maps, I just have a couple questions.
my 01 f4i is fully stock except for gearing, and a cage, the spot I found is about a half hour away. I've read a couple threads about the tip over sensor or something? If the bike falls, it won't start again, is that correct? I'm a little concerned, if I ride a half hour away and drop the bike and I can't get it started again that's gunna suck.
Is there anything I have to do to prep the bike for drops or anything, sensor wise?
Another thing is tire pressure, i know it's easier to stabilize a wheelie at 17 or so, but can I ride the freeway for a half our on that tire pressure? Or should I ride a decent tire pressure, and when I get there let some air out, then pump some back in before I leave?
Is there anything else I should do to the bike so i don't get stuck out there?
thanks

Re: about to ride, couple questions
Just remember, no matter how setup your ride is one drop can still disable it. Make sure you have a truck/trailer or know someone that you can call to help you get it home if you can't ride it back. I looped my f4i the first time I went out to practice wheelies and completely destroyed the entire front-end. I didn't have a truck and the only friend I knew with a trailer was out of town for the week. Luckily I wasn't far from home so the tow truck didn't cost too much.
Re: about to ride, couple questions
the tip over sensor doesnt permanently disable the bike. all it does is cut off the fuel on my r6. after you pick it up, you turn it all the way off(i remove the key), wait a minute(or a few minutes), and then start it up again.
Re: about to ride, couple questions
just turn the key off then back on and that will reset the tip over switch and you can ride around with 17 psi but dont hit any twisties like that ..
and if you are just learning it might be a good idea to hit up the spot with a friend just incase you get hurt ..

Re: about to ride, couple questions
yea riding solo blows, plus if you ride amoung people who are better then you you will learn faster and better then tryin to teach yourself
Re: about to ride, couple questions
OP, I strongly suggest getting some knee/shin guards. I didn't wear any at first then I looped the bike, broke the peg and had the feeler on the bottom stab my knee. It was awesome.
Nothing too bad and it didn't really hurt until it started to heal then it was sore. This is what it looked like about a week after. Dr. said I barely missed the tendon. If you look closely you can still make out the circle shape from the feeler. Now I wear those icon leg armors every time I ride.
Re: about to ride, couple questions
bypass the bank/angle sensor and never have to worry about it again. I've ridden with 10 psi on the highway all the time. Just wears out the tire faster and ******** constantly pull up to you and tell you your tire is low. Also, NEVER ride to where you practice. You either will not practice as hard and always suck (personal experience) or you end up wadding it and needing a truck/trailer anyway. Just my experience. Everyone is different.

+1 on taking a buddy with you. The last thing you wanna do is be lying in a lot with a broken leg and no one around. When youre first learning, always have someone.

I wouldnt recommend reducing tire pressure.. Not for learning which is what your doing... You should learn the right way.. the way all of us old school ppl were taught.. im not even that oldsckool had to edit this to add this in there!!
Dont change **** on ur bike but making it tougher.... and learn to use ur brake untill u hit Balance point.. when u got balance point down... worry about reducing tire pressure and getting your bike to turn in on some circles.....
you can learn whatever u want in ur own order.. i jus recommend not learning the hard way liek I did...
i tried to copy everything about all the good riders i knew.. so i got a 62 tooth sproket... reduced my air.. whole nine yard..
all it did was take me longer to learjn... Now i hit stock up if not 1 down in the front and plus 2-3 in the back - I still dont do circles..

( Thats me in the back.. thinking about how I could make my bike more like thad.. aka Thehates's so i could do what he could.. Reducing my air to that DID Not make me do spreaders!!!!)
But i still dont **** with the tire pressure because its jus things i dont need to woryr about now..
gearing, psi, adding a hand brake..
Learn the basics first.. Have friends around (Truck) and you will get to all the miniscule **** later..
+11
I've let out a little bit of air... but deffinitly not below the mark where it would effect my twistys... its just hard to rock correct Tire pressure on a brand new tire sometimes.. till u get that Cone as i call it burned down a bit
