Rider Down....
Rider Down....
Just got this from Ken Abbott....
One of the Loose ****** riders, John Paola, (from the Chicago area) went down last night and lost both of his legs. For further details, you can call Jamie. If not for him, he would not have had a chance.
At this point, please send everything to:
Loose ****** Extreme
c/o ****** Glenn
731 E. Fullerton Avenue, # 203
Glendale Heights, IL 60139
And for email, you can use baglenn@jmwsons.com
He may be transferred from the hospital tonight where he is at to a different one and the family just got there today so I think they do not want any visitors right now.

Update from ******....
Jamie and another rider were behind him and I believe he was doing a wheelie and came down in a tankslapper and was thrown from the bike and hit the guardrail which cut both his legs off, fractured his arm in about 20 places-thank fully Jamie was there to make tourniquets to put around his legs to stop, or at least help, the bleeding. John was wearing his helmet with chin strap fastened, and the impact ripped his helmet from his head, had it not been for his helmet and Jamie, he would have passed. We were at the hospital all night and when we had left he was still undergoing cat scans and such to determine if he had any head trauma. We just found out now that he is awake and conscious. No doubt, very upset. Jamie is still in shock. If you care to get more detailed info, just call Jamie.

John is a friend of mine and we recieved the call of the accident happening about 7:30 last night. we rode down to the hospital to see if we could find anything else out, but he was still in surgury. as was stated his helmet was on and buckeled, the other rider stated in the report was my former "friend" John, he picked up the helmet after the other John was in the amblance and noticed it was still buckeled. Jamie and John ( the third rider) used their belts as tournickets(sp) to keep the blood loss minimal. The ER told us that he had good blood pressure due to this quick action.
John has a wife and a one year old son, they are all gonna need help from friends, 'cause his life changed forever last night. But at least he will live to see his son grow up.
yea shuggs there have been a few attempts to recruit riders for LC by jamie, but ill keep the drama out of this thread.
NOTE TO EVERBODY: Maintian your equipment, John's Scotts damper was shipped off to get serviced from a wreck the week before, it was noted that his steering stem bolt *MAY* have been left a bit loose. This in conjunction with an R1 is not a good combo.
Ill be sure to report all of your well wishes when i go to visit John
thanks
eric

i dont stunt because i have a daughter, and a job and bills. i do enough stupid stuff. i dont need to be adding to it. i understand you all like the thrill, and the talent some of you show is just unbelievable, but every time i hear about a father being injured that badly because of stunting it touches me very deeply. you all need to be more carefull. if you have kids, think twice.any wrong move could end it all.
This is really tragic news. My heart goes out to John and his family.
This kind of sobering news is important to be seen by all of us. This sport/recreation that we are involved in is really dangerous. Most of us are aware that something like this could happen to us at any time we are riding, and gladly assume that risk because we love the sport so much. But in my interactions with many people who stunt and ride I get the feeling that many of them don't acknowledge the risk inherent with this sport. I don't know John and I'm not trying to imply that this is the case with him. I feel uneasy about using his tragedy as an example. But what has happened to him has happened. Hopefully the kids that are buying thier first bike this season and have set a goal of doing combo wheelies by next week will take notice of this.
