I seriously suggest!! Must Read!!
I just picked up the August issue of Superbike. It's a European streetbike magazine and for those who aren't familiar..... Big Dave from the Starboyz crew appears in the magazine quit often.
Anyway, I suggest everyone who is seriously involved within the stunt community to pick up a copy and read the article on page 66. The article is based on the American Stunt Movement and offers much insight on the outlook of our community. I read many articles, writeups, summarys, devoted to stunt riding and all seem to project the same scenerio. I think this is the first article that explains the choice we will be faced with soon.
So pick it up and write down your thoughts in this thread. I think all of us should seriously evaluate the current situation and think about the possibilities of chosing a new direction.
But that is just my $.02

I read it tonight at the book store. Very true about the choice to be made. Me personally, I say take the next step to becoming legit. Leave the street alone, and start getting this sport more respected in the public eye, and as mentioned that includes saftey gear. We got to learn to be sucessful from the business stand point, while also being role models. I'd love to see this sport take off in the right direction, and not quote, Keep it's outlaw status". I mean we need to move forward not backward. We need to look more professional, and less like a bunch of rebelious people who hate the law (which is what I got out of the article, and basically most of us including me are guilty of all of the above). Clean up the act, get with the program, and let's move it to new levels.
That's my two cents,
Justin a.k.a. Wingnut
PS-I thought it was a pretty fair article, nicely written. Instead of keeping the negative image we have, we need to clean it up, Everything reflects on us from our image to our lifestyle.

I feel both ways about it. I think it is definitely something I would like to see go big because of the increase in contests and purses, along with exposure.
However, it seems like with Skateboarding, for example, going out into the world kind of slowed the progression, things got all corporate, and it just isn't the same to me.
I don't know, just feel up in the air about it, but that is my humble opinion.

Well I haven't read the article but from what I can tell they are talking about taking it off the street and making it completely legit. I think thats what we all want but we all know there will always be the street element due to the fact many of us don't have amazing stunt spots to practice at. I like to keep my tricks to our spot...keep the man
out of our hair and costs less in tickets. LOL
I'm all for more parking lot action and less street. Let me use a parking lot though instead of chasing me outta them. I don't have enough money to build my own
As far as stunting going big. I guess I'm the odd one out but I sort of don't want it to. I'd love to see the pro guys be able to make more money of this but I love it's image now. I like that it's not as huge as skateboarding. I love the fact stunting a sportbike is something very few people can do right now. Once everyone is doing it, it wont seem so special to me.

Nice article.
Here in Poland there is no stunt scene but as I look at the vids around 50% if not more of you guys ride without gear (read... at least a helmet).
No company will ever support you big time cause they'll be just afraid. They invest in you big cash and two days later youre out for the entire season cause you didn't wear a helmet...
Enough of this blah blah of mine...
You rock the planet!
You're my heroes!!
Maybe one day I'll finally lear how to wheelie...
@ Gimix - i think that skateboarding gained a lot because of it.
Lot's of guys can now live out of it.
About the tricks... there is a point in which will all stop. Then you'll see lots of combinations made out of the same tricks. It's like Mullen said (this guy invented a lot of tricks) '...I've got no frikkin' idea what else can I do...' in one of the Thrasher articles few years ago.
He's right IMO.
Now they just do the tricks ten times faster
i'll stop now... too much beer...

superbike mag
i read that magazine every month it is pretty good cause big dave stunts every testbike... anyway that article was good because it gave both sides of the story. Everyone should read it. I'd love to see this sport in the x games or something similar but there will always be people on the street. All so called extreme sports are acted out on different levels. Kids on dirtbikes get tickets for tresspassing in sand pits, skaters also get hassled for practicing in public. its just the way it is
went out and got it today. good article they state very valid points about gear and taking it off the streets for sponsors reasons and things of that nature. i mean if thats what it is really gonna take then im down for whatever.
i just wanna ride, all we do is ride, all we wanna do is ride!!!.

As for the helmet thing, in most competitions helmets are required if not jackets, gloves, and boots. Some even wear them for doing their own shows. I don't think that is an issue of people picking us up.
One thing I liked in the artical was the fact that it said no major US magizines give print to stunt comps or lifestyle. They came over to write a really good article. The undergound is huge and it might be this way for a couple of more years. I dont know if we will ever have legal places to stunt. Even if the comps get bigger the riders still all need places to stunt to practice and evolve the sport. The bigger teams have places to go but the "new stunter" still has to start on the street, there is always new riders entering the sport and dont hate them because they are new, We all started somewhere. For this reason the sport will never leave the street.
It started on the street, like street style skate bording and even pro skaters still rock the downtown spots. We all love to ride a wheelie down a public street if you admit it or not, we all want recognition for talent that we have. Most of the world doesnt havean idea of how to wheelie or stoppie but hopefully one day they will see it on TV right next to FMX and halfpipe skateboarding.
