Re: new bike/new problems

maybe you need to burp the cooling system, the sound your hearing could be the cam chain tensinor, get a ape manual cam chain adjuster.

Re: new bike/new problems

the ticking noise you're hearing is most likely the cam chain like he was saying. but i can't think of why it would be over heating.. how many miles are on the bike?

Re: new bike/new problems

dude i had a kawi that had the same problems ... still dont know why it would overheat, but i did hot wire the cooling fan to a switch and i kept it on almost all the time while riding,

and it def is the cam tensioner ... i had to replace mine 3 times .... get the bike checked out at a shop maybe ... cause u dont want constant problems with this bike especially if ur gonna stunt it

Re: new bike/new problems

thermostat wont open, water pump took a **** or there is air in the cooling system so try and burp it. open the cap and let the bike run until you see the coolant get sucked down and let the air burp out and fill it up as its flowing, if it doesnt open by 225 change the thermostat and waterpump.

ok flushed system, put in engine ice and wired fan to run all the time. took it for a 7 mile ride in 45 dg weather and it got up too 78. when i started it jumped to 158 then really slowly went to 178 im sure if i keep going the temp would have keep rising so water pump??? how can i check that??

Re: new bike/new problems

i had an 06 that ran super hot. Water pump was fine, ran water and water wetter at the track, coolant on the streets. Could never get it to run under 217. My rings were toast from running too lean though. If you don't already have one, put a PCIII on your bike, (or remove your fmf pipe and go back to stock). 178 is super low. Kawi's tend to run on the hotter side. you can also adjust your stock CCT. I did mine yesterday because it sounded like a timebomb. all you gotta do is loosen the two 8mm bolts a bit (maybe 1-2mm), and you may need to use your finger or the tip of a screwdriver to pry it off the motor just a bit til you here the auto tensioner click. ONLY let it click once then tighten the two bolts and start her up. If its still ticking repeat. I only needed 1 click on mine to get rid of all the ticking. If you adjust it out too far the 1st time you'll have to remove the CCT, reset the tensioner and start over.

good luck.

Re: new bike/new problems

it looks like someone put a egg in there to fix a leak...it works but isnt to good of an idea

And is the thermostat good...pull it out and stick it in a pot of boiling water. Then you can check continuity and it should probably be coninuous? if its working and you put it in HOT water

what these guys said! if im in the lot and i see 230 im good. ill cruise back n forth faster to let the wind cool it down and have at it again! you should be okay as long as the coolant isnt leaking outta the overflow

p.s. what happened to my SR mag ?
