Hey, and if we implemented a UHC system that was even half as efficient as any other OECD member, you'd still pay less than you currently do.

Well that's what they get for being ******* stupid for A not getting a job that pays health insurance or B wasting money on **** they don't need and not buying health insurance. People to need to accept responsibility for their actions. If you ride with no insurance then you better be willing to pay for an injury. Re: Socialized MediCare Anyone?

I would be for UHC if it was a last resort. First america needs to stop being a nation of fat slobs, our diets and lifestyles are made for breeding cancers, heart conditions etc ... Maybe if everyone ate right and exercised and didn't smoke and we actuially had a health information system that worked we wouldn't be in the situation we are in ...

Anyone remember that great system the government set up to make sure everyone had retirement? Social Security? We are all still paying for that but when does that go bankrupt again and we will never see a dime from it. Sorry in theory UHC is a great idea but when everyone in the government is looking out for themselves instead of us, its only a matter of time before we get screwed over again and pay for something we will never use

UHC would provide a system like the one in Canada

UHC would provide a system like the one in Canada? Are you retarded? UHC refers to a wide range of different systems, with the common factor being that the government provides health care for all of its citizens. UHC isn't some new concept we're pioneering here in America, it's a concept implemented in all OECD countries besides our own. So Canada is on a UHC system, we're not creating this new found concept of UHC to be like Canada.

Because our current one doesn't flat our deny coverage to people in certain situations?

That's the problem It's hard to get good insurance that that doesn't cost $200 a month unless you're lucky enough to find a job that pays benefits and I can tell you if you don't have a degree good luck because it's rare

My wife works with people that are on welfare and get their insurance through the state. Almost all of them will go to the emergency room for a cold and have to pay nothing out of pocket. When I crushed my hand in a wood splitter I had to pay a $200 co-pay for using the emergency room and not being admitted.

Re: Socialized MediCare Anyone?

our emergency rooms are crowded with people that dont have a real emergency because they cant go in a doctors office, they know the gov will pay the bill in an emergency room because they cannot be refused service, its part of the problem with our system, its why if i wanted to add my wife and kid to my insurance it would be 1100$ a month. Insurance companies are having to compensate for uninsured by having outrageous rates

Vague anecdotes are always the best. Yes, only poor, lazy, illegal immigrants like to waste the resources of our hospitals.

Way to prove your point.

I advocate it because it has proven to be a great system in many countries, and even solves many of the problems people in this very thread who are blindly against it are complaining about.

Let's review:

Pros:
A. It'll cost you less individually and require less taxes.
B. Everyone in our country will be covered.
C. It will clean up our emergency rooms.
D. It'll help remove the current government bureaucracy caused by MediCare, Medicaid and state run insurance programs.

Cons:
A. Doctors will be paid less.
B. You'll have one less reason to be racist.

I know the racist part sort of blows, but other than that it sounds (and has been proven by many countries) to be pretty nice.

i had to pay like $150 to see a ortho specialist for 15 minutes when i broke my clavical and all he said was "its broken, you can have surgery if you want to or it will heal like that and most likely be fine".
