leaking gas cap fix?

i have an aftermarket gas cap on my r6..pro tek to be exact. from day one the cap has leaked, but didnt bother me much as it only dribbled a bit out the front of the cap when id set a wheelie down with a full tank of gas. well i dented the tank and rode it for the first time today and gas leaks pretty bad out of the back when in a wheelie. how can i seal this up and fast?

Re: leaking gas cap fix?

i had the same problem with my gixxer but it was a stock gas cap it was a missing bolt on the latch im guessin this is a screw type just remove it check all sealing surfaces and apply petroleum resistant rtv type stuff generously to were it meets the tank shouldnt be to hard to find out worse case send it back for a new one possibly defective part try stock also see if that leaks

I work at autozone... and we sell this cork gasket material by the sheet. Try that.

Re: leaking gas cap fix?

i would go with the gasket sheet . my buddy (jay fury) would put a rubber band around it so when the cap was closed it served as a gasket and he said he never had any problems, i never tried it tho.

It is a one size thing. It is a make your own gasket sheet for custom manifolds. Ask for it.

Seal all it is good for gas. Oh and ride your bike more often and your gaskets will not go bad.

Re: leaking gas cap fix?

+1 on the gasket paper but make sure the cap vents to the overflow or it will build pressure and blow out the gasket

see the little hole on the right side ? if there is a set screw in there take it out and if there isnt a vent hole there make one
