636 clutch install.......

Is it hard to do a clutch on the 03 636? Think i going to rip into the bike this weekend and replace the clutch plates. I was looking on e-bay and there only like 100 bucks as long as the install goes good. I put a clutch in my dirt bike before and that was a snap. what you think?

clutch is very simple, a first timer could have it done in an hour easily. here is a link to help you out. only thing I would tell you is don't overtighten the clutch spring bolts. These are not meant to be very tight. usually 8-10 on the torque wrench wich is like nothing or they will snap off on re-installing them.

its a piece of cake. if you've changed a clutch before, it'll be no different for the 636.

+1 dont use the barnett junk. It's pretty straight forward. I was able to change them out without draining my oil. Dont forget to soak the clutch plates in oil before you install them. And make sure you watch the order as you take them out you put the new plates in the same way.

yup, barnett's don't last for ****. also remember the steels have to go in a certain direction. The edges of the steels have a sharp side and a not so sharp side. the sharp sides should be facing away from the bike. take a look at the new steels and you'll know what i am trying to describe...be careful not to overtighten the spring bolts. those things snap very easy. If you can use a t-handle instead of a ratchet you'll less likely to overtighten. while you're at it make sure you inspect the hub and basket for wear and tear. and if you're careful pulling the clutch case off, you can reuse the gasket. good luck.
