hypothetical idea to kick around

My kids have a flat two acre lot in a rural area, and they can use it for whatever they want. My daughter, Sierra, who is ten, and met a few of you at XDL, came up with an idea for it.

The kid is effective, we started businesses at the same time and she was profitable before I was. to date has also made more money, so when she has a plan, I pay attention. It usually happens. these results things are amazing. Who knew?

it's not a competition. I was showing her how it's done.

Anyhow, she wants to get a friend of ours who gets most of the local roadwork contracts to come down and pave it. She wants a builder friend of ours to hook her up with some roll away walls, a graffitti wall, a couple of home interiors, city streets, etc, and she wants to get Lowes or any other home improvement store to kick her a building for storage. property already has power, phone and water IIRC. If not, it's close, and we know those people too. It's a small town.

She wants to make a stunt dvd film set. The only thing we can't recreate is a freeway but you know where to find those.

She's just a little kid and only has the summer to really apply herself to the project, but she has my full support. I'll try not to **** her up too bad. haha

She has a lot of resources, but can't dip into a future inheritance to fund a present project so she's going to have to get creative. And she planned for that.

When she pitched this idea, she had great notes, and it's not a bad plan, it could work.

It'd be sweet for riders to have a spot to practice where they don't get fucked with, and the roll away walls are genius. The kid's a freakin genius.
I'm sure she'd charge to film there, because she's all about money, but she'll also put the effort into it if she thinks it could be a good cash generator.

Assuming she can pull this off, which is a huge long shot, it's just an idea, do you think people would come off a hundred bucks or whatever to film there for a weekend?

Re: hypothetical idea to kick around

Oh, it's in Southern Maryland, so it'd probably be only locals. A better question would be, would you use one of these if you had one local, and would you pay to use it if you could? and how much?

ok. that's enough questions out of me. Thanks in advance. FO in advance to the haters.

OH, and Bmore people, Sierra and I wil be at Hopkins on the 14th, all freakin day. Hit me up if you want to check out her project folders, photos etc. I'll be in surgery, but I'll let my mom know Sierra is expecting friends to stop in. got a brain tumor.

She most needs advice on what paving to use, her future sponsor will surely pitch the cheapest on Earth, she wants to come back with the exact stuff her clients will want to ride on. TIA, see ya later.

why do I have a feeling Scott just won a bet?

Oh, and I'm planning on getting tourettes pretty soon, so ****** watch out. hehe

its a good idea, but think of how many dvd's are out right now.. a hand full. if she wanted to make it a place for comps, shows, maybe even let the MDA use it sometimes she could make money.. but as for just a place to shoot videos, its not gonna work, the most fun is including your enviorment, not making it.

also getting a corperation (sp) to "give" you something so you can make money off of it. won't happen period. she would have to have some kind of non profit organization that will benefit from this, She sounds like she has a good idea, if it were 10 years ago when business's just gave **** away, but in this time, you most likely won't see anyone jumping to put money in your pocket.

She was kicking around the idea of pitching it as a sponsor kick down, a one time thing, and giving them some signage along one edge of the property permanently in return.
(my idea thanks)

These are good thoughts, I appreciate them. Ideas are always the best fun before they get poked full of holes, but once they've been shot through a few times, you can see if they might actually work.

In this area, she may not have too hard of a time going after corproate sponsors, because the business owners and franchise holders are in many cases friends of mine, my family, or her dad's.

right on. We have no clue if any of it's even possible, or what it would be worth, if anything.

it's a fun idea, and for her part, she just loves wheelies, and really hit it off with the stunters she's met.

Re: hypothetical idea to kick around

good idea but needs to be kicked around a bit. Maybe having the option to ride free but have a bar there so people can chill and watch(alcohol=revenue). Maybe a little skatepark for revenue. Definetly comps to bring people in from farther, like one a month. Its great you got your kid thinkin this way so young, props and good luck with the surgery heal up fast.

Thanks man. If anyone could talk people into doing something totally off the wall, it's Sierra.

*so proud*

her notes are the cutest, and coolest thing I've ever seen. she drew examples.

A 12" thick bed of gravel, with old fashion concrete on top. Asphalt will develop cracks within a year or 2 because its soft compared to concrete.

btw, last time we looked into this, we got quotes of around $50 grand for a small lot done right.

Re: hypothetical idea to kick around

paving ****'s expensive for sure. one of my buddies (whose uneducated opinion meant so much at the time) said it'd be like 80 or 90k which sounded insane, but maybe he isn't sniffing glue.

we might be able to work something out. worst he can do is say no.

I have faith my girl can do anything within the realm of possibility. I know she'll TRY anything.

ya undercutting and packing with gravel is the best. some companys have whats called Geo-strut which is somewhat cheaper but does the same thing. I've heard $15 grand on small parking lots with no underworking...so 50 grand doesn't sound really out of reach..

Re: hypothetical idea to kick around

Up here paving goes for about $120 per sy per inch of thickness. That's an in place price. You'll still need gravel.

Thanks. Yeah, my kids are cool as heck. I have a lot of faith in both of them. If they don't pull it off I won't be disappointed, I'll just be proud of the effort and creativity.

They're picking up skills.

Re: hypothetical idea to kick around

i think i read this whole thing wrong or something. correct me if im wrong. you have a 10 year old, who is a girl, who has "connections" and "hook ups" to sponsors and builders. this 10 year old is gonna have a stunt dvd film set built with "graffittii walls" and other props. this 10 year old will be doing all of this on her own because you are in the hospital. so, am i way off or spot on???

Re: hypothetical idea to kick around

i hope she pulls it off, but having a 10year old put so much effort into something as an adult know can not be done with out any funds just seems almost mean. but if you got it like you say you do, maybe it can be done.. i'm rooting for her!
