636 sprocket and chain question
i got a 04 636 n rode almost 20000 on the stock gears n chain but 3 rollers are gone and its getting stiff so i bought a new set and went -1 and +2 so from 15 40 to a 14 42. i got a 120 link chain and need to cut it down to size but dont want to make two trips cus i dont have anything to cut it with in my garage. dose any one know how many links this would take for that gearing? has any one tried that gearing before and did you like it or not? if i dont ill buy another stock 15 front and just go with that...

put the new sprockets on and turn your chain adjuster nuts almost all the way in, i'd turn em in so that your adjuster block is even with the first line on the swingarm closest to the front of the bike, then put chain on and mark it...and make sure your not going to cut it to short...measure 5 times cut ONCE
but seriously you dont know someone who has a damn grinder for real, man you have no friends

Re: 636 sprocket and chain question
I have an '03 636 and i went up 3 and down 1 with a stock chain. I have a Vortex front sprocket and for the rear, I found a stock 43tooth 05-06 sprocket on eBay.
Re: 636 sprocket and chain question
110 links is what you need. Stock is 108 links, so what you do is take how many teeth your adding and divide by 2 and add 1 = 2 more links added to your stock 108 links. I just did this on my 04, i went 14 up to a 54 tooth, it was 14/2=7+1 = 8 more links to 116 total, worked perfect.

+1 i used that method and i went up 15 and worked great honestly you could use your stock links for that set-up it would just be farther forward than normal. I went +2 and used stock chain length and your going down 1 so it would work take your stock chain with you and cut to same amount of links.
