it will be fine as long as you turn the amperage down so it doesn't blow through the metal cause it's too hot..... you really only need to worry about that with tig, but mig at the right setting "which should be ok if your buddy knows how to weld....." use a flux core wire.
Re: crack in tank
your no fun dude.... i was looking for a good laugh... but if his boy knew how to weld then he wudn't be on here asking mig or tig.
Re: crack in tank
i just took mine to a radiator shop, dude cleaned it out and welded it for 40 bucks. then i just bondo'd the **** out of it and sanded it smooth. took 50 bucks and its fixed for good, jb sucks, leaks after a couple weeks
Re: crack in tank
Tig is the way to go put a little water in tank after emptying it gas will break down and it can get in the tank and plug fuel filter and sock u can weld with mig done it myself just have to go slow and burp the welder will put more holes in if you stay in one spot too long sand it down
Re: crack in tank
in 2-4 months it will leak
mig is fine but don't use flux core, use a proper welder! When I had my tank welded the welder just 'clicked' the trigger.. just clicking it like once a second and moving, he didn't actually keep a bead going.. I had 3 holes brazed and 2 holes welded LOL... my tank doens't leak

o well... i'll keep looking.
