Re: crack in tank

pour dawn dish washing soap inside and fill with some water splash around and it will keep your tank from turning into a flame thrower

Go to like autozone or discount or something....I had an old 1960 ford that had a gas tank leak. They have some water weld or something like JB weld, but its specifically for gas. You can even use that **** with the tank full and leaking out the crack. At least it worked for me.

Re: crack in tank

also keep in mind once you braze or weld a tank, it melts the coating off the inside so it will rust over time..

Just from hosing my tank out after having it acid bathed and welded, i noticed it had surface rust already inside

mig is fine but don't use flux core, use a proper welder! When I had my tank welded the welder just 'clicked' the trigger.. just clicking it like once a second and moving, he didn't actually keep a bead going.. I had 3 holes brazed and 2 holes welded LOL... my tank doens't leak
+1. gas will eat through the JB weld. Mig will be fine....

I've seen quick steel leak on my friends gas tank after a few months

and I even bought "gas tank seal all" for mine once, it leaked even FASTER then jb weld! It said right on it "for repairing gas tanks" and had a picture of a lawn mower..

It failed in about a month lol and became gummy then i could just peel it right off.. (and when I put ANY glue on, I cleaned it GOOD wih degreaser, sanded it, then acetone then I put the glue on)

Don't be stupid, just do it right the first time and be done iwth it. Especially if your gonna put the effort into bondo and paint!

Re: crack in tank

Just get ur bud to weld it up. Or pay a few bucks and get a local welder to patch it up.

I paid 40 bucks for some welder guy to fill a massive hole in my tank and he did it no problem!.

Dont use the JB weld cuz it sounds like it will be nothing but problems down the road...No sense doing a quick fix on the bike you are going all out on to make it look good.

Re: crack in tank

stuff cotton ***** in the hole, then take tape... this is the important part! Not duct tape but black electric tape over them... will work real good for you.

Talking Re: crack in tank

If your boy can tig then you are straight. IF he can weld for real. If not a gastank epoxy will work from autozone or advance. We have used that stuff to fix bowls on Carbs several times no leaks even with all the vibration from the motor.

Flux works awesome on Tanks
