Valve clearances on lot bikes

Just wondering do any of ye guys check the valve clearances on your stunt bikes or do you just not worry about them until a problem/noise happens.I know each bike is different but just wanted to know how often ye would check them on a parking lot bike (without clocks for mileage).

Re: Valve clearances on lot bikes

its prolly a good idea to maintain a lot bike even more due to the additional abuse it endures.

Re: Valve clearances on lot bikes

i think most riders run there bikes until they blow up. but valve clearance is checked at 16000 miles usually. i redid my engine this year and checked my clearance i had 20000 on my bike and it was spot on. if you want check it at the end or begining of each season.

not necessarily yes the temp is up on lot bikes. but your not reaching the high rpms of say a race bike. which should be check frequently.

Re: Valve clearances on lot bikes

IMO I think its a LOT more important to have the valves adjusted and throttle bodies synced on a stunt bike.. As that is one of the most important things to a bike running good at low end..

I've never adjusted mine, but I know it needs it...

I just wish bikes were like my honda car/dirt bikes... Just screw adjustments in stead of shims.. If it was that easy I'd be doing it yearly

Ehh race bikes are at high rpm for extended periods of time.. But I doubt many racers hold their bikes on rev limiter on a daily basis

Don't get me wrong it is good to check the bikes for anything and everything...but if your just looking for info, I have never had a bikes valves to be out of adjustment. And i also read a thread last year about an 01 RC51 with 99k miles on it that has never had valves out of adjustment.........like my avitar says HONDA > YAMAHA

Re: Valve clearances on lot bikes

I did mine on my f4i and they where all out except one or maybe two. the bike had 30,000 + miles on it though.

Re: Valve clearances on lot bikes

i asked the same question 6 mos back. had a ticking noise i thought was coming from #4, turned out was a bad cam tensioner.

had a shop run the valves anyway at 21000. #1 "slightly" adjusted. $450.00.

used motors on ebay/craigs $3-5 hundo, but i know plenty people that got fucked on junk motors.

my bike is still going strong. run the valves if the noise is loud. no tellin what your gonna get from a used motor, reliable sources are harder to find than a shop that doesnt charge labor out the ***.

'hitting' it

But not HOLDING IT

I LITERALLY hold my bike ON REV LIMITER WOT for over 30 seconds daily..

if not daily, at least 3 times a week every week for the last 3 years

just because it 'runs' doesn't mean its running as good as it can..

Anything will go for LIFE without a valve adjustment... It's just how smooth and how much power you want it to produce..

can't really compare you getting fucked by a shop to someone else doing their own job..

I'm betting a shop would also charge $150+ to change spark plugs.. Doesn't mean you should avoid changing your plugs lol..

if you would have stripped you bike down that price would have probably come down. it unfortunatly takes time to get stuff off and to the valves. not to mention it's a pain in the dick checking valve clearnce in a bike.
