single vs 4 piston caliper-hand brake set-up

i got questions about brake set
im using brembo 16x18 with single piston dual caliper bracket from hoheydesigns...im happy with dat but hoheydesigns got another braket which uses 4 piston front caliper as rear brake.
has any1 tried 4 piston caliper/braket set-up
what difference does it make than single piston.
is it worth trying
please help
im not stunt pro but im getting there

Re: single vs 4 piston caliper-hand brake set-up

I got the Hohey 4 piston with a Brembo 19x20 master on my F4i and love it. Maximum braking with the least effort. That's what I wanted so I could just breath on the lever and have it brake. One finger lock if I need to. On the 636 I've heard it's a must to go with the 4 piston setup, but on an F4i you can go either way, just personal preference. My boy has the Hohey single piston with a 19x20 Brembo master and he's happy with it.

Not necessarily, plenty of people use the 16x18 and are very happy with it. I even think that more people use it then the 19x20. It's a sick setup, and there are advantages that people prefer, more modulation and less likely to mouse trap. I just wanted maximum braking potential, That's why I went with it.

When its time to trim, you usually need new pads anyway so its no big deal

Yes. The design of the 4 piston caliper does not allow the pad completely cover the rear rotor as it is designed for a much larger rotor. The pads will over hang about a 1/4" and there is no way to prevent it. But it's very easy to fix, just put the caliper with the pads on the rotor and mark the over hang and trim it with a dremmel, grinder, or what ever. And then your done. You don't have to worry about it any more.

He should just trim it and then forget about it.

What are you doing? The pads would have to wear approx. half way until the over hang portions are close to touching before you would need to trim them, and your doing that in 4 rides. Plus you would only trim them once and then you're done.

Re: single vs 4 piston caliper-hand brake set-up

I pull my pads off reguraly to sand them cause they will bite better.I will trim the pad usually when I do this, not because it needs it but because I already have them off.

sorry one more question:
can i use any 4 piston front caliper from any bike or it has to be off f4i???dumb question but you guys know better .....thanks.........................
