......how to put a RC51 swing arm on a F4I.......

Since I am geting pms all the time on how to instal a RC51 swing arm on a F4I. I figured I would post step by step instruction on how to do it.

Mods sticky this thread!!

Here is what you need to make it happen.

1. RC51 swing arm
2. RC51 rear shock and lower linckage (not the dog bones. you no longer have a need for them)
3. RC51 rear wheel and spacers
4. RC51 axel,nut and spacer
5. RC51 rear brake mount
6. You will need to use the stock F4I swing arm axel

OK after you have everything listed.

This is a must. you must measure your stock wheel hight. I did this by measuring from the rear axel to the ground. You have to do this properly so that the rear shock linckage can be welded into the propper spot. (you only have one shot at geting it correct so be carefull). After you have you'r measurment correct remove the F4I rear wheel, swing arm, rear shock, and coolent bottle ( the coolent bottle will no longer fit in the stock location)

Now you should have an F4I with no ***.

You need to modify the lower mount of the rear shock to look like this. Other wise it will hit the swing arm when mounted up.

Once you have shave the lower shock connector. You then have to modify the link that will connect you'r shock and swing arm together. Try to keep as much metal on the link as you can so that it can get a good weld.

here is what the stock link looks like.

Once you are done modifying it it should look like this.

Now you have to mount the swing arm to the motor. This part can get a little tricky. The left side of the swing arm were the swing arm axel goes willl fit fine. However the right side there is a gap. You must make a spacer or when you crank down the bolt you will only bend the frame. Here is what it should look like if you are over top of it.

Once you have the spacer made. tighten the swing arm up. Now you have to mark out on the top of the swing arm were the shock linkage must be weld. this is were Those wheel hight measurments come into play. Install the rear wheel. get the rear wheel fixed at the propper wheel hight. Once you have that done mount up the RC51 shock. The Shock resivore is facing upward and to the left. Now bolt the linckage to the shock it should mount up like this.

Now on the subframe there is a thin round bar conecting the right and left lower tube of subframe together. You must cut that out or the rear shock will hit it. Once that is off. now you need to mark were the shock linkage must be welded. Once you have you'r marks done take it to a welder. you are pretty much done at this point. just slap it back together once you get it back from the welder. Also I had to mount the coolent bottle up front look at the pic below.

Now I say it just will not look right with out the RC51 front end on it. So try to get one.

This is what you'r bike should look like when it is done. Well almost

no i do mean the rear axel. because you need the correct rear wheel hight so that when the rc51 swing arm is installed you can get the shock link in the propper spot. you dont want the bike to tall or to low.

yeah, but if you measure from the rear axle (wheel axle) it wont matter because the wheel size detemines that height, i believe you mean the swing arm axle.

If you measure the swing arm axel it is preatty much satationary no matter were the rear wheel axel is. The measurment of the swing arm axel will only change when the shocks are compressed or decompressed. Basicly when the conversion is done the f4i needs to sit at the same hight as it did when it had the stock f4i swing arm. If the rear wheel axel is higher or lower than stock f4i measurment that is a bad thing. You do not want the bike to look like it is doing a wheelie or a stoppie when it is just driving down the road. trust me I spent weeks working on this conversion while leting my broken wrist heal. I had nothing but time to make it perfict.

Not trying to put down what u did, i think its great ingenuity, but that setup can't be as good as still having the linkage in there with the shock setup, i would think it can't travel correctly. At least doing the 600rr swingarm u cant still use the linkage.

thats what I got on mine.

Here's the how to

http://www.702sportbikes.com/viewtopic.php?t=12263&f=19

It adds a couple inches in length but

If you move the wheel as far up in the swingarm then its about a half inch longer than the stock location.

Nope it travles just fine. But if i ever did another conversion i would use the 600rr. it is just easyer.

Yeah, I see no pics also. i was thinking of doing a swing arm conversion to Either the VFR for a single sided swing arm, or the 600rr. But I can't think of one good reason, aside from having something a bit different, but I wonder if it will HURT my strength an handling. Input anyone?
