pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
obviously need a diesel, but anyone have first hand experience pulling fifth wheel trailers with or without a dually truck?
looking at a 40 foot 5th wheel toy hauler with some sort of newer diesel...don't think i need a dually, but wanted some opinions. how MUCH better is it for something like that?
keep in mind the trailer will be filled with stunt bikes...please discuss

dually
my buddy has a 48 footer and pulls his with a chevy diesel dually but he wants that bad azz thing whatever it is bcuz he says his dually isnt stout enough for that trailor but a 40 footer should be nice with a dually Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
Chris...Waht's up?
According to my towing expert, a dually is not needed any decent diesel is fine for a 5th wheel..since the 5th wheel trailers are more balanced.
However he did say a dually would be better since the duel wheel dispurse the wheight better and more evenly.

thanks frankie...that's kinda what i thought too.
whaddabout opinions on diesels? ford, chevy, dodge? i've heard pros and cons with each and i know some of the motors in certain years are no good.
i'm looking for something 05-07 with under 40k for under $30,000....opinions?
gonna put a lot of miles on it...60k annually and probably keep it for 2 years

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
it depends on a couple things... what are you towing... 40ft 5th wheel what do you have 15 bikes??? how many people do you have on coming with you??? what is your price range??? you can get a 03/04 dodge whch get better mileage than a newer one but the back seat is smaller than a ford or newer mega cab dodge... if you only plan on hauling stunt bikes a 2500 will do as long as the tires are load bearing close to stock or better...

chevy is no good in my opinion, ford is cool and big...you can get a 4 door with a long bed which is better for a 5th wheel, and i like dodgebut what ever you get i would say get a stick... it will last longer... oh and this is sitdownsteve on my boys computer

40 ft 5th wheel. 5-6 bikes, not just stunt bikes but streetbikes too, plus gear: sound equip, tent, etc. me and maybe one other person. less than 30 grand is what i wanna spend and i want something with under 40k miles.
def want a 4 door but dont need a megacab...i'll be driving or sleeping in the toy hauler.
older dodges have a great motor like you said, is also what i've heard, but gotta get something semi new to go with my 'program'...bmw has a certain image to uphold....

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
sprinters are nice and i looked at some super siiiiick ones, but def pricey and wont hold the bikes i need or have the 'presence' i need at events....wrapped 5th wheel with awning and 20x10 tent and 5 bikes underneath is the look i need for 09.
steve, my buddy said stick too, but am i going to hate that when i'm tired? probably gonna need to get a small beater truck for around town and practice if i do that?

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
A regular 2500 HD chevy should do the trick for ya. Out of every diesel manufacturer in the past couple of years, chevy has been turning some suprising results. Plus with the way the economy is, and the automotive industry hurting so bad, you can actually walk away now with a diesel for less than 30k, decked out, OTD......

i've seen some good prices on used trucks, heading to dealerships tomm.
i prefer the interior and ride of a chevy but question the durability of the truck itself (not motor) past 100k miles. never been a dodge fan, but i'm told they are 'ram tough' lol. i have a f350 gas now and like it all around, but it doesnt ride that nicely.
sitdown says to go stick, but i dunno if i can handle that...i'm a lazy driver

Right now, down here in Houston,Tx I can walk out with a 3500 mega cab Dodge diesel for around 16k, decked out. Weird aint it? Really, now's the time to buy, especially for trucks. Sop it up like gravy with the biscuit wheels cause it wont ever be this good once the economy starts back up. Dont know too much about the dodges, but from what i've heard it's just too much truck for the engine. Cummins is a good engine to have, but still one of the dirtiest, IMO.
My dad's got a 2500 HD gas chevy and pulls his 23' Bayliner no problems. And that's also inluding 100 gallons worth of fuel and (2) 120 gallon ice chests loaded with brew and ice....
Chevy's been actually leading in the diesel's the last two years recently. As for stick, with today's automated computer in the newer models, it's about the same for MPG as an automatic. Plus you cant really eat and drink when your driving stick......
Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
i aint scared to drive anywhere in the US to get a deal...i might hafta look into that for sure!
my f350 gas hauls my 16ft trailer with 5 bikes fully freighted at 8mpg!!! the money i'll save with a diesel will be about even with diesel fuel being higher than gas so it's an even trade. more of a pain in the *** on the highway with teh gas is the problem...i like to keep it at 80 minimum
