Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

how old is your ford? the leaf springs on the front axle make for a shitty drive, but my buddy's 06 has springs and shocks on it now factory, way smoother drive. my biased opinion would say powerstroke all the way.

gonna put a lot of miles on it...60k annually and probably keep it for 2 years
if i was gonna buy a diesel, i would go with the dodge hands down. im a chevy guy, but when it comes to diesels the cummins is the leader of the pack. the only downside to the dodge is the looks (IMO) and the solid front axle (doesnt make for the smoothest ride). i would also go with a 1 ton over a 3/4. lastly, someone else already said it, but a stick would be best.

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

i would not get a 6 liter ford. they are a time bomb with head gaskets. my 7.3 does well all around i have had 2 bikes in the bed and 3 in a enclosed trailer with a lot of luggage and easily hit 100 up hill. Dodge is ok i just think they look like poop. and chevy has big issues with glow plugs and injectors going bad just ask darius

i also have a nasty aftermarket transmission in my truck.

overall teach i would buy a older 02-03 7.3 ford f350 dually put a nice tranny in it and put the newer front end on it that way they would never know what year it is. all the front ends are switchable on the fords

he is to lazy to do all that... and you dont have to use all the gears with the diesel so shifting really is not that bad... look in to getting a long bed if your set on the 5th wheel so you dont hit the back of the cab

GMC Topkick. This setup travels the country and has about 100K miles on it with no issues. That's a 48' aluminum gooseneck trailer. I think the truck was around $50K new so it might be in your price range.

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

I would say the new dodge cummins is the way to go. My dad has the megacab dually with the BIG cummins(not sure if they are putting it in nonmegacabs yet or not). Comes with a 6 spd auto and a jake brake. This thing is a monster all the way around. He usually pulls his 30+ ft trailer with a gvw of 30,000 lbs. Its graveeyy.

Definitely don't need a dually for pulling bikes .... if you are going for a newer truck go with a dodge. I am a Ford fan - if it's a 7.3L, the 6.0 and 6.4 are garbage. Silverados in the year range you are looking at are notorious for injector problems. The Dodge's seem to get the best mileage too, especially when you throw a chip in there. Like someone else mentioned with rebates and incentives right now you could probably walk out of a dealership with a brand new truck for around $30k ....

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

Teacher... In 04-07' I had a 05' ford f350 6.0 ltr dually that made an obscene amount of power. 495hp 971 trq to the wheels. (***** Can Back me up on the power ) I pulled a 20x8 trailer all around the country doing shows and competing. The dually is ur only option when ur pulling long distances, on curvy roads. The weight dispurtion is 100x better with the dual rear axle. And with the weight and length of that trailer ur dreamimg of, u would have some serious swaying goin on back there if u decided on a single wheeled truck. The chevy as much as I hate to say it is ur best option right out of the box. The ride, power and Tranny of a factory Chevrolet 3500 is the best on the market and the Chevy will hold its value longer than the Ford or the Dodge. Did I mention it rides like a Cadillac? I would NEVER buy the dodge anyways due to the fact that U would have to spend $$$ to make it even think about performing like the others and it rides like ****. The Ford is a head gasket killer if u try and put any kind of real power to it (over 400 whp)And Rides like **** too. They all have their problems but if i had to go buy ANOTHER 50,000$ dually truck it would be a Chevrolet 3500 or even a 6500 if the price was right. U already have ur F350 so u know about the maintainence of a deisel, just add 2 more tires and a 2000$ hitch setup and u'll be ready to hit the road. And why would u need a 40ft trailer to get all ur crap in? Other than the pimp factor? Zanny is gonna hate u for making him drag that monster all over. Zanny, I hope u known how to back up a trailer that long bro...

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

Im not big in the know about diesel trucks, so I will stay away from that part. I will say you should definitely check the dealerships right now.

My other truck got totaled when a tree fell on it a couple months back, so I had to find a new ride. I was looking for an 04-05 Silverado with around 25k and most were going for $14,500. It turned out I was able to get an 08 leather, extended cab, the motor I wanted, them throwing in a spray in bed liner and some other extras for $15,100. The window sticker price was over 30k.

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

First of all i would go with 02-03 ford 7.3L with low miles and throw a suncoast tranny in it. The new Dodges 09's with the V8 cummins prolly not a bad choice but they prolly still have bug issues since there brand new Chevy personally i think dont make a good truck short of the Kodiak which is made for pulling huge loads but any deisel you get its gonna be manditory to chip just for the milage and power the V6cummins are a bulletproof engine but lack power compared to the V8's looks anymore are just personal preference because they all look like a mack truck

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?

Whatever you do Teach, do not get a ford that has the 6.0 in it. Ford has had more problems with that motor than any other motor they have ever used ever. Just thought I'd give you a heads up.

AS FOR TOWING DEPENDS WITHA DUALLY OR SINGLE WHEEL.. IF YOU HAVE A BLOW OUT ON A DUALLY YOU WOULD LOOSE CONTROL OR ANYTHING BUT A SINGLE WHEEL WILL GET A LITTLE BETTER FUEL MILAGE BECAUSE OF LESS ROLLING RESISTANCE ON THE GROUND... AND PLUS HUALING STUNT BIKES THERE ISNT ALOT OF WEIGHT THERE SO SINGLE WHEEL WILL BE FINE.....AS FOR WHAT TRUCK... I HAVE A DODGE AND LOVE IT... I WOULD TRY AND STAY AWAY FROM ANYTHING FORD WITH A 6.4 BECAUSE ITS TO NEW AND BUGS ARE STILL BEING WORKED OUT OF THEM...THE FORD 6.0 ISNT A BAD ENGINE NOW... THEY WERE TRASH WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT JUST LIKE ANY NEW SERIOUS OF ENGINES...YOUR GONNA PROLLY GET A MAX OF 14 TO 16 MPG WITH ALL THE TRUCKS OUT THERE.... THE DODGES AUTOMATIC SUCK THATS THE ONLY DOWN FALL TO DODGE... I HAVE A MANUAL.... ANOTHER THING TO KEEP IN MIND IS THE LENGTH OF THE CHASIS LIKE A LONG BED EXTRA CAB WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER RIDE THEN A LONG BED STANDARD CAB....
