I wouldn't really see the need for one. They have strong enough return springs that it should be ok. Also there is less resistance to return a thumb throttle over a twist throttle due to the decrease is surface area (lots of surface friction in a throttle tube verses a small area on a thumb throttle)

u hit the nail on the head.
On our street-stunter 954 it start to suck a bit after a while of just riding, I definatly wouldn't suggest goin TT on ur streeter, thats why i left the gixer 1k with the stock twist throttle for just goin out ridin, But on the f4i and 954 for lot stuntin its all good,

The return line is not for the throttle tube. It's a safety item incase the throttle bodies get hung up. You can force them closed.

Re: thumb throttles

not tryin to threadjack but ive seen these things called a "throttle rocker" that goes over the twist throttle for when your just cruising to help with hand cramps and looks like it would work on the same concept as the thumb throttle on feet wheelies allowing you to push the throttle if it would stay tight enough

true too....but if it was solely for that purpose then why do they have twist on 450 dirtbike and thumb on 450 quad? wouldn't they both be the same safety issue? Also with all the 2 stroke dirtbikes too.

Re: thumb throttles

its not a servo motor. its mechanical with a spring on the dirt side of things, except a few of the newer FI ones. zuki is right. its the throttle bodies being the main reason for the return as a saftey. i heard before someone made one with a return was like a $200 plus thumb throttle.

none of my streetbikes that are FI have servo motors. They are direct cable.

Re: thumb throttles

Dunno if anyone looked at it this way

but what good would a return on a thumb throttle be? You're not holding onto the thumb throttle, just pushing it.. If it stuck open, not like you can pull your thumb back and the throttle would follow

Sure you could take your hand off the grip, and reach down to pull it back.. But manufactures probably look at it like (if the throttle sticks open, just hit the kill switch)

although stunters don't run kill switches usually

Ummm, I used a quad to learn bp long ago and did lots of spreaders on it without issues of falling off. And on a bike with the right tank dent they take less grip to hang onto than any quad. my

Seriously in my town, I've only met 1 good quad rider, and thats my friend that races quads

all the rest of them are idiots, that think a 40mph wheelie, or cutting donuts is ******* BAD! lol

I LOVE throwing up a circle wheelie on my 150f in a field lol... always makes quad riders ****

again I'm just talking ****.. and ranting haha...
I just get annoyed with the fact everytime I go to my local trails, theres always a group of "TOOLS" bragging about how they are professional racers and **** HAHA

Hell last time I was out riding, there was some idiot on a "250 frame with a 350 motor" that races professionally.. I asked what series he raced in, and he never responded..
I ended up DUSTING his *** in the trails, but of course, in the open field he'd always fly by me.. And in the jumps.. wow.. it was a LAUGH! lol
Yeah, Im not that guy. I am the one hitting the step ups that half the guys on bikes are afraid to do on strip jobs in KY. I know the ***** that you are talking about. They are everywhere here as well.

Also, I did the Thumb throttle conversion on my bike yesterday and rode with it a little bit last night(it was cold as ****), It doesn't seem to have any real advantages it, I do feel more comfortable with it though. This one is kinda up to your personal preference. If you don't feel comfortable with it/ are not used to it. I would not recomend it.

He didn't say its not possible, just pointing out you have less control and less grip.

IF you don't agree, then try this with one of your friends.

you and a friend grab onto a rod, now you do'nt use any thumbs, have your friend hang on with his thumbs. Now try to yank the bar out of eachotehrs hands, whoops slipped right out!

quads are a different story. a spreader in a quad has your arms above your waist. There isn't near the pressure on the hands as a slow spreader on a bike. That's why it would make a difference.
