help on learning on stoppy!
help on learning on stoppy!
I have an '06 R6. I have been trying to do a stoppy for bout a month now. Cause i want to learn. Ill try around the neighbor hood whenever im riding around and get a chance. But when I try to do it the ft brake locks up and steering column turns (jerks) to the left and bike tends go down or wants lean down. The strange thing is my arms are locked and im going straight. WHy this is happeneing is behind me. Sometimes the bikes jerks forward and cant get the back to come up. Usually im going bout 20 mph. Thats what i was told is normal practice and starting speed. Maybe someone could shed some light on this. Thanks
Re: help on learning on stoppy!

Re: help on learning on stoppy!
wow dude. bikes arent like cars. you jsut dont grab the lever and BOOM instant ****** stoppie.
you have to ride the thing. lol.
jsut roll at like 30 ... ah **** it, i dont even feel like typing it right now. jsut go practice in a parking lot. make sure front tire is clean and warm. pinch and bounce the bitch up.

Re: help on learning on stoppy!
from so slow lots of guys will call it a "pop a stoppie". they say this is dangerous.
That is also how I started doin 'em. ya kno, 12-15 mph grab that bitch and it'll lift a little.
the tire locks... I'd say look at air pressure. between 25 and 35 is what I'd recommend. I like a little less than stock recomendation. What tire do you run? I'd say a michellin pilot or pirelli diablo, but I've guys on here say all different things.
so I'd say 60mph (ish) Get you weight forward, get into the brakes, constantly applying more pressure til the rear is off the ground. then ease off the brakes (pretty quickly but not just let go). The higher the tire is the easier it lifts, so less brake from 2 feet to 3 feet than from 1 foot to 2 feet, if ya get me.

Re: help on learning on stoppy!
Roll 40mph gradutally squeeze the lever increasing in pressure and the tire should pick up a little.. You need to make sure the surface is clean. I'd suggest a lot because you know what's there. Never know if there's oil or anything on the ground.. I think stoppies are the most neglected trick
Re: help on learning on stoppy!
roll in about 25 30....pull that lever in..when you feel the suspensin compress...push forward on your bars just a bit and feel the *** end lighten up..then slam that lever a little harder...it should be all one motion..the lever should be pulled just perfect to come up to bp...or just before so you can ride the brake when youare learning...ps...steering stabalizer might help...pps..maybe take a lil bit of air out of your front tire
Re: help on learning on stoppy!

Re: help on learning on stoppy!
Hey bro, I don't know why all these guys are being ******** about this but I will try and help you out! I recently learned stoppies and its actually pretty simple. It doesn't really matter how fast you go but 25mph is ideal. When you get to 25mph apply the front brake generously and wait until your front forks fully compress. Don't do it SO hard you lock it up though! Once you feel them compress tighten your knees on your tank and literally push all your weight on your handle bars. Once you do tha you will feel the rear end come up. And thats a stoppy!
Re: help on learning on stoppy!
I see we wasted no time tearing this poor kid apart haha
Brian,
these are all good tips dude, oddly enough, the video tape really is a good idea. It helps if you can see what you're doing and compare it to other riders because it helps you visualize whats goin on. Go out and try some of the tips, but just keep in mind that no "tip" is gonna make you get it all the sudden. You gotta get into a lot like T-Dubby said and just put in some reps. Learn at your own pace. Roll into em at 10mph if you have to. Put your focus about ten feet in front of you, its kinda like driving a car, you will tend to go towards what you're looking at. Let your body take care of the rest. You gotta trust yourself. Look ahead and give the brake a firm, steady pull until you feel the back end come up, then release. You're probably thinkin about it a little too much. Good luck and welcome to SL, better throw on a thick skin.

Re: help on learning on stoppy!
stoppies are a lot of fun. once you do learn em you'll end up doin them everywhere. just make sure the ones you do in traffic are worth the trouble of ******* cops though. i rolled a half *** stoppie "accidently" right in front of a cop and it ended up costin about a bill thirty and a careless drivin ticket on my record.

but in all honesty. practice. just ******* practice. its just like i said, its not a perfect grab of a lever//// it sall in a pinch and a bounce.. and brake combination.... hell i can roll what 100ft in first gear... lol. WEAK!
just get in a parking lot and try to work that ****. clean the front tire make sure its warm for good grip. pinch bounce up and rolllllll :YEAH :YEAH
