serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

So i got myself into a situation. Early in the season i bought a 2006 GSXR 1000 from a guy i thought to be a friend. I paid cash to him. That was my mistake! His ex gf was the one who was making payments on the bike so they put me on the registration and agreed to give me the title once it were paid off in full. I am on the registration and have my own plate and insurance. I DO NOT HAVE THE TITLE. He has been giving me the run around saying that he has finished paying the the bike off and just need to get the title from his girl.. this hasnt happened yet. He is the middle man and i dont kno how to get to the title holder.

I am afraid they may not be paying on it and i am in a vulnerable position to get the bike taken from me as if i never paid him anything. I do not want to be in a position where they say i stole the bike or just keep giving me the run around and never get the title. WHAT OPTIONS DO I HAVE? how can i get the information as to whos name the title is in and what address or phone number is associated with it? do i have any options? I know this was a dumb move from the start, but this is the position i am in and NEED HELP!!

THANKS

Re: serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

Just called the dealership and tell them your problem. tell them to run the VIN an they should be able to tell you whos name the bike is under an might give you a adress or number.

Go to your friends house and tell him to call the ex up and ask for a copy of the lien release to prove it was paid off. I dont think the dealership will give you the persons information but you never know.

Re: serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

dude bought some blow with your money! HA HA!!!!!!!

start watching ebay for a legit frame, swap everything over, dispose of the other frame and keep that thing chained to a 400 year old oak tree when you arent riding it.

if someone comes around looking for the other bike? What bike?

Re: serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

beat his ***. Beat ex girlfriends ***..... Then ask for the title

Seriously, going to any motorcycle dealership and asking a sales guy to run the vin (pretend you are wanting a new bike) and they will give you the skinny.......

Re: serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

should get or have gotten a bill of sale... and had it notarized and everything. That way you can show proof that it is paid for and that the title goes to you.

Re: serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

I dont know what its like where you're at but in Colorado if the bike has been in your posession for 180 days without a signed lein against the bike or bein reported stolen you can take the other person to small claims and they'll award you the right to the title. Catch is that if you cant prove you've made payments towards it you would be forced to absorb any loan against the bike which means that if they haven't been paying for it.... you'd be siging over their debt to you. BUT, proof of payment can be in the form of a carbon check copy, SO if there is anyway to rpove you've paid for it, they COULD award you rights to the title, pay off the bank with insurance, and send the other people to collections for what they owe. You can find out who holds lein against a bike by goin to the DMV and doin a VIN search - I think its like $8 . Posession is 9/10 of the law bro, take their *** to court.

Re: serious TITLE problem NEED HELP!

ok, everyone seems to be telling you what you should have already done, the first thing you should do is not let your 'friend' think your getting upset, just visit him with a receipt for the amount(s) and date(s) that you've already paid him and have him sign it. even though he may not be the owner of the bike it's signed documentation that can be used in a lawsuit if it comes down to it. After he signs it, ask to see his license, and verify the signature, and copy down his license number or make a copy of it if you can. If the signatures don't match have him resign it the way it is on his license. Bring someone with you to witness his signature too if you can.

Then have him call the owner of the bike while you're there, if they don't answer you should leave a message with your name and contact info. If they answer, speak directly to them not your 'friend', exchange contact info before getting into details, and then explain the situation. Let them know calmly that you have an attourney and will file a lawsuit if they do not cooperate.

If that doesn't work or he won't sign it, then call the cops(a friend if you know one), tell them there's been a theft and someone will show right up, and wait in your car till they arrive to file a report. don't and I mean don't get into an arguement or a fight. It would help if you have any receipt or bank statement showing a withdraw, but not necessary. Hopefully, just getting this far will scare the guy into signing the receipt and trying to atleast get your money back.

yea i would say look on ebay or craigslist for a good frame with a good title and swap everything over, and chuck the frame in the ocean if possible.
