50 Stunter moving to the BIG BIKES, any advice?

I have had my 50 for a month or two, hit up the parking lot every weekend, so far I've gotten all the basics, sit downs, stand ups, seat standers, flamingos, highchairs, side saddles, one handers, circles (some days), and everything in between. I feel 100% confident on the 50, but now I am getting the itch to bust out some parking lot stuff on my 2005 GSXR-750. The bike is pretty nice, has a salvaged title, been repainted, not a beauty queen, but it is definitly not a throw away bike.

The way I look at it is I am going to buy a crash cage, the bike is already -1,+2 (520), and I figure I will take it out and figure it out in first gear. I have rear brake control on lock when I am on the 50, but I doubt my skill on the big bike. I can ride sitdowns on the 750 in 2nd for a good distance, but I never really feel like I am having to lean on the rear brake much, and eventually I wrap out (dont want to dump it at 70mph).

If you were in my shoes what would you do, get the cage, take it to the lot and clutch up first gears and hope for the best? I dont have any friends that stunt so I am going to have to figure it out on my own, or find some peeps in the DFW area that dont mind a newb. If anyone else has been in this posistion, let me know what you did, I think I am ready to step up, just nervous.

Thanks!

get the cage for sure before you go out and try any slow ****. everyone drops it their first times.. i would go with sick innovations for sure. and remember to keep that foot on the back brake!!!!

Re: 50 Stunter moving to the BIG BIKES, any advice?

Ya, thats what I was expecting, I douched the 50 more then once learning. Rear brake comes so easy on the little bike, I was doing sit downs and standups this past weekend with my eyes closed just to prove to myself I am doing it by feel. I think I am just afraid of all the extra power these bigger bikes have, I have two 50's, one stock 50cc and one with a T/B race headed 88, I can wheelie both of them forever. I think the fear is what makes me really want to do it on the big bike.

So the Sick Innovations cage is better then the others, Freestyle Ingenuity is not too far from here, I was thinking about going with the FI cage, but I am a newb, open to suggestions.

Any other parts I should consider before I try it? Keep in mind that is a K5 GSXR750

yea pull the plastics of for sure.. put them on once your better. i have an FI cage on my bike but i dont like it at all.. seems weak to me. SI has always been my favorite and thats what i had on my 600rr. a kid looped it at about 65mph and i has perfectly fine besides the subframe. but you can deff do slow wheelies just dont forget that brake!!

I would first try not to suck, then move on to scraping .... you have a few suck points cause of stunting a 50, but im sure you can get street cred back no problem!

Re: 50 Stunter moving to the BIG BIKES, any advice?

so i should strip her naked, put on an SI cage, and nut up.

about the sprocket, i have heard that you dont need a real aggressive gear to start out on, you guys think -1,+2 in first will be good for parking lot stuff at first? if not, what should i run to still be somewhat streetable?

about the 12 bar, i have heard that the subframes on the K5's are too weak for 12 bars unless you go with a chromoly unit, would i be better off at first just risking the stock subframe and if i break it buy a good one?

is the 750 any better or worse to stunt then 600's? i figure it'll have more grunt, but probably easier to loop (i base that on my 50 vs 88cc experience).

also, what do you guys think about the ez-pull clutches, my clutch has always seemed hard versus other peoples bikes, these worth the money, if so which one?

i have handbrakes on both of my 50's and rely on them for all my off peg wheelies, but i wasnt planning on adding one to the big bike until i got my regular wheelies on lock, dirt bike bars would probably only come if i broke my clip on's off and needed something to replace them with.

I have seen you on PlanetMinis in the past, did you start out on the 50's? If so, how much harder is riding a slow wheelie on a big bike versus say seat standers or side saddles on the little bike? I am just worried about how much more twitchy the throttle is on my 750 verus my little bikes (although my race headed tb88 is pretty twitchy), and it seems like it'll loop super easy (i know, i know, the back brake saves all), guess i am going to have to grow some and do it, the 50's got me spoiled, i have to try hard to loop the 50 it seems like.

Re: 50 Stunter moving to the BIG BIKES, any advice?

if you have brake control down to a reflex, its pretty much impossible to loop

Re: 50 Stunter moving to the BIG BIKES, any advice?

first thing... its easy to man handle the fifty it doesnt weigh **** so dont be surprised when you realize you suck on the big bikes. brake control is great if u got that thats half the battle balance point is the next big thing cant go slow if u cant hit the balance point. jus remeber its alot more power an heavier so its gonna be totally different than the 50. but jus like everyone else on the board gotta start some where post some pics when you get it crackin

we will see, and good luck with the wheelies man I'm still getting all the basics down I'm hoping to have idol wheelies soon rather then playing with the throttle and brake to hard.
