Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
and BTW, i just noticed i'm on tony's 600rr in my avatar and they have sliders on them...you'll never see them on my bike though.
Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
I like running sliders because I can run full pegs and I never break them or rear sets.
Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
I have never had a problem with my aluminum sliders. The plastics ones suck, but my aluminum ones have held up great. A machine shop made them so they are slightly larger than the ones that you can get from SI, but they have held up with no issues.

i've always run full stock pegs.
Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
So the si cage holds up decent, but the sliders are crap.
First, it took forever to hammer the sliders in there (yes, we understand the design, it just wasn't a good fit).
Second, the crash bounced off one side and onto the other. This caused both extended sliders to break off at the splice, leaving half of the thing jammed into the cage, so now I gotta break them up and pull them out somehow to get to the motor mounts)
Extra $40 lasts half a crash, and causes more heartache--not worth it. The sliders are barely ground, they just snapped right off the cage.

Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
sliders are pieces of ****. No offense to Ian but they are a gimick used to get 40$ out of people. They are not needed and in a way are worse than the regular cage design because it adds leverage to the cage by extending that mounting point. This in turn will transfer more torque to that mount which is a bad thing.
It also doesn't let the bike lay all the way down which can cause it to bounce up and flip over during a crash verses falling on it's side and just laying there.
I have had an SI cage for my f4i since ian first started selling them (what is that, 3 years now?) and i've never had a problem with running the cage by itself. My DB bars don't touch the ground in crashes so you cant say the sliders help save bars...the normal cage already does that.
basically, sliders are pieces of ****.
Those that said use aluminum sliders...what do you think happens to aluminum when it smacks the ground? same thing the plastic does, it breaks. they suck too.

Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
this thread is so stupid... You hammered them into the cage??
Also... they are Delrin sliders man... what did you expect? That's what they are there for... to take the hit so your cage doesn't.. plus delrin should slide instead of grab and roll. I blew mine off one side on the first crash for sure, but I wasn't pissed off..
.. I did drop it on that same side a couple days later.. same exact type of drop except this time, instead of staying there ... the empty slider spot grabbed, and caused it to roll and consequently busted off the other side in the process. still not pissed....
That cage is diesel as hell with or without them..... I just took them out and put in some old aluminum bar ends that I had laying around and I haven't crashed it yet really since! Except maybe once where I basically held on to the bike on it's way down, and slowed down it's fall.
I'm leaning towards the aluminum ones, but I had the extra cash and figured I could use the hardware and make my own later out of a stick of Delrin I'll turn on the lathe.
I'm only saying that I disagree with your opinion, and that's OK. Because I have the opinion that this is a stupid thread so we are even... LOL.

Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
gimick NO. They are an add on part that helps to reduce roll over and prolong the life of the cage. They dont come with the cage because not all people like to run sliders. Like I said I have never broke any in 3-4 years, but I know that some people do break them. To each his own.

Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
It's so funny how some people are complaining about SLIDERS. They are sliders. Not a cage. If they held up like a cage, we wouldn't need cages, lol. It's like when a squid walks into a shop and buys sliders thinking that they'll save his bike. They are only for the (and usually one) initial impact to soften the blow and not roll. Wow.

Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
Okay, lets clear some things up:
1) The SI cage rocks -- I never said it didn't.
2) Yes, I understand he design, the aluminum part of the two-piece spline is the part that didn't fit proper, EVEN if I took the other part of the split completely out, it would not have made a difference, I still would have had to hammer it in.
3) Aluminum sliders may have been the way to go, I doubt they would have snapped off like these did.
4) I'm not african
5) This is on an '03 r6, not a 600rr (I have both bikes)

Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
I love my SI cage...i put just little bar end sliders on there so the holes at the end of the pipe doesnt dent closed when i drop it...they lasted about a month..hvaent put new ones back in and it hasnt bent shut at all..so SI cages are sick! never used the sliders tho...but i def. wont get them now...lol
Re: Si cage, okay, but sliders are poop
on this one man... if Ian said they are test fitted then they are test fitted. Period I'm also not saying you are a liar either. if they didn't fit, then I'm sure your's is the one cage that slipped through the cracks and they used just slightly smaller inside diam. pieces on just your cage out of thousands....
I'm just saying that I really find it hard to believe that they didn't fit. now an allen head socket is what barely fit and might have taken a hammer's persuasion...

The aluminum pieces are are round stock. We dont even turn them down on the lathe. they are a perfect fit un turned. You may have had some powdercoat build up on the inside mount of your cage. Either way, Im sorry you arent happy with the sliders. Let us know if you need anything else. Thank you for your honest feedback.

I feel stupid now, because I had to grind down my entire sprocket before it would fit the chain and I didn't even think about that being a possiblity. I retract my statement.... that would be a legitimate reason for it not fitting.

most of the time i read and shut the **** up,but i have to give my
here. i ate **** doing a ss at 70mph and my si cage did its job.not a bend a warp or a slider broke, and form what y friend said it looked bad.so thanks punk.

like everyone else said, sliders keep the end of your cage from getting FUCKED up and having to be cut off..
Not to mention help keep the bike from rolling over, absorb the initial impact, and if you wreck hard enough to easily slap the slider off, think of all the impact it absorbed before it snapped!
