help keep the bike cool

We all know what a session on a hot day will do to our bikes, everyone runs different stuff but have never seen anyone wrap and coat the header, So decided to try it and see it it made a different i have 2 friends both with 07-08 600rr's so we figured it would be the perfect test bed

So we took the header off had a local exhaust shop remove the cat off the header scotch brighted it and wiped it clean with alcohol prep pads. painted the header with DEI exhaust coating then wrapped the header with a the DEI exhaust wrap. you'll also need the metal zip ties to hold the ends everything can be bought at advanced autoparts

So after all done and a lot session with some heavy donuts and drifting the non wrapped bike was at 226 degrees and the wrapped bike was being rode harder and was only at 212 degrees.

it makes even more of a difference while riding on the road but it was def worth the 65 bucks to keep the bike cooler and i think it looks pretty trick.

Re: help keep the bike cool

i wondered why track racers used this stuff. i thought it was just to protect their aftermarket fairings from melting.

well we talked to some people at moto gp and they were like its the best thing you can do no one ever thinks about the fact the oil pan is wrapped in exhaust. so we came home and did it and on the street it runs like 12-19 degrees cooler the normal operating temps

I thought header wrap was to keep the heat in the engine, and keep it at optimal running temperature for racing

i believe the idea is to help scavenge exhaust gases. i have also heard of wraps causing cracking in car headers.

thats the need for the wrap.

your right but the cooler the better to keep the heat in would do nothing but bad things, heat robs power, causes premature failure, ect. ect. the wrap is just makin it so the heat from the headers doesnt soak into the motor, heat soak is bad

Re: help keep the bike cool

also the hotter the temp inside the exhaust the better it flows so the header wrap helps keep the heat inside the header
