Best gear for controlled wheelies

Hey guys

Been getting real good with my wheelies. But since i have a 1k with stock gearing and sprockets it comes up pretty quick in 1st and is a little twitchy to control. Would it not be much easier to be doing long or controlled wheelies in 2nd?

I have also been thinking of maybe changing my rear sprocket to make her come up a little easier in 2nd but not at quick as in 1st

What do you guys think the best sprocket size would be?

I went +10 on my FZ1, and it was great for slow stuff. Stay in 1st, unless you're killin the streets.

Re: Best gear for controlled wheelies

if your on a 1k there are only two gears with a stock sprocket you want to be doing wheelies in. that's first and second, first gear on my 1k when I had it was plenty enough.

Re: Best gear for controlled wheelies

Lower gears (AKA stunt gears) will make it more twitchy.

THROTTLE CONTROLL!

Higher gears will make it less twitchy... I can't see Any reason to do that though.... unless Maybe you've got it turbo'ed and want to go 220mph. haha

Re: Best gear for controlled wheelies

your not gonna get more power in second with out gaining it in 1st unless you change gears inside the trany. change a sprocket its gonna effect every gear your in.. ya just gotta get smooth with it.. it comes with time.. and yes the bigger the rear sprocket the twitchier it will get. keep the stock

Re: Best gear for controlled wheelies

It's not the gear you are in, it's the practice it takes to get it smooth.
