Re: 04 636 speed tac

do a quick google search..but yes almost all motorcycle speedometers are off anywhere from like 4-8 miles an hour off..can't remember what the reason was but when they test new bikes alot of companies and magazines list how much they are off by so i would say this is normal unless again your bike is geared then it will be way the **** off depending

Re: 04 636 speed tac

i dont think it is geared down. the only thing the guy changed in that area is he went 2 up in the rear sprocket and 1 down. i was thinking that might be doing it

Re: 04 636 speed tac

geared down from a 16 to a 15 will throw it off buy about 2-4 mph city speed and 9-11 mph off at highway speeds.

speedometers are sometimes overcompensating for the ballonig affect off a tire spinning at a high speed. tire condition will play in the reading as well. speedometors are usualy accurat below 40 mph. however if your bike is geared down then it will read high because the speed sensor is on the counter shaft (the shaft your front sprocket is attached to).

Re: 04 636 speed tac

thats what I ment by saying geared down. decreasing the amount of teeth on the front or increasing the tooth count on the rear. thats why your speedo is reading high.

your bike is geared down.

Re: 04 636 speed tac

Actually, most cars are set up to be off as well. All of my bikes are at least 5mph off at 60 with stock gearing, my cage is dead on at 55..... Well.... until I got my 3.90 gears...

Think about it this way: You'll read 5 over everywhere you go and never get a ticket!

Better than thinking you're clear and then getting popped!
