frame alloy? 6061? does anyone know what alloy of aluminum a 636 frame is made of?
i work with aluminum at my work an jus make sure i do everything for correct alloy. i assume its a 6000 series alloy like 6061. the thing im mostly not sure of is what heat treat it is?! T5? T6?!
i want to weld bracing on it an then reheattreat it...
help

its made from 6061 aircraft grade billet aluminium. (T6)

The neck and back half of the frame is forged aluminum(good luck finding out that aluminum mix), and the spars are made of extruded pieces....I dont know the exact grade of extrusion they use but its not 6061 for sure! Cause 6061 would not form the way they form those extrueded pieces...
6061 would crack if you tried to from it like that...
I could ask my welder what he thinks it is....If I were going to weld anything to it Id use 6061, its up to the welder to get good penetration on both types of aluminum without melting the softer one, they dont have to be the same grade...

ya that much i knew... but the heat treat is diffrent for diffrent alloys an i wanted to throw it in our extrusion ovens at my work... an re heat treat so i got the super gangster strength!

I will ask my welder, because he also heat treats frames when I give them to him to weld....
