What's Wrose???
Re: What's Wrose???
maybe it's just me, but no clutch shifter wheelies r a cake walk!!
im getting a 600 soon, so ill find out on a big bke, but clutchless shifting is stupidly simple, just make sure ur over the bp, but still in the bp range.

Re: What's Wrose???
ok...that sux then...you cant do anything with your bike with out harming it so i guess ill keep doing what im doing and hopefully it last me a whille.. maybe in the near future ill buy an older bike to mess up..
Re: What's Wrose???
+ 10000 you can up shift with no problems. down shift with out clutch will create major problems. what do you think 500 hp drag bikes do????
cut idle (or blip idle in your case) and shift. 1st to 2nd has the biggest gear ratio change and requires a longer blip or kill time.

A motorcycle tranny is a constant mesh design, all of the gears in the transmission are in constant engagement with one another.
Here is a basic tranny concept, explain to me how in a constant mesh gearbox shifting without the clutch is not bad...
Re: What's Wrose???
my bad then ive just leared that since i was a kid

Read this article and it will answer all of your questions. http://www.f6rider.com/VRCC/tech/trans.htm
Notice it doesn't say that clutchless shifting is bad, doing it wrong is bad. Makes since right? Most modern manual transmissions (auto or motorcycle) use free spinning gears that are constantly meshed and engaged to the output shaft via collars with lock dogs. In order to shift you need to take the pressure off of the lock dogs so that they can slide in and out of the gears. You can do this by pulling the clutch or by momentarily reducing (not completely closing) the throttle so that the engine is not accelerating or decelerating. Can you do this perfectly? Of course not. But you can get it close enough to work. Unless you seriously fubar, you're not going to cause catostrophic damage to your tranny. You probably will however, cause slightly more wear and tear than using the clutch.
The thing you need to think about is, even though professional racers do it all the time, how long do they need their trannys to last compared to how long you need yours to last?

Re: What's Wrose???
on every sportbike that i have owned, i do the same thing (especially if im racing), not as often, but i do. i always knew there was a chance for damage, but i was always told as long as you shift at the right time youll be fine.

the 500hp drag bikes, will eb rebuilt ages before tranny damage can happen.
Would you do clutchless shifting on a 1989 bike??
Then I woudln't do it on a new bike, unless you plan on replacing it!
And to the people that think clutchless upshifts are fine.. Fix my f4i's second gear then!
Or tell that to my friedn with a R6 with no 2nd gear..
Re: What's Wrose???
when i used to race MX id only use the clutch to take off, stop, and the occasional feather.

Now sure, a brand new bike, will last a couple, maybe a few years doing clutchless up shifts..
But RACERS, replace there bikes all the time, so of course they are gonna do what makes them the FASTEST, and what is not the most reliable thing to do to their bike..
